Curious how everyone who has changed tire size is calculating their mileage.

Year: 01'
Tire Size: 285/75R16 Kumho Road Venture AT51
Gear Ratio if you know it: 4.10
2WD or 4WD: 4WD
Modifications that affect MPG: 3-inch lift, AOR Hybrid Front Bumper (90-100lb?)
Current highway fuel economy: 17.5-19 MPG
Automatic or manual transmission: Auto
4 cyl or 6 cyl: 3.4L
Planning on changing A/F ration and Oxygen sensor, long overdue, pretty sure MPGs are going to go up, if only slightly.

What are your HIGHWAY mpg's?

I'll bite.
My speedo is 1-2mph off around 60-70mph(I have a gear driven Tacoma VSS, so my speedo isn't ran off the wheel speed sensors), so I just base it off my ODO Trip.
With bigger tires, you'll be traveling further than your ODO says, so fuel mileage will be under-estimated if you just go off your ODO.
Mine is still under actual speed, so my MPG numbers are also under-estimated(not that they're "estimated" at all).
1 MPH is 1.6% of 60 MPH. 1.6% of a 220mi tank of fuel is 3.52mi. So I am actually going 223.52 miles when my ODO says 220. Negligible for me, but would make a notable difference for guys with 315s doing their calculations based off what the ODO says- if their speedo is ABS sensor fed.

I just use my Ultra gauge for MPG's. I've tested it's accuracy based on fuel added/mileage traveled and it's dead on.

I also use my ultra gauge. The key to getting good highway mileage is keeping it at 65mph or under. It's really that simple.

Year: 99
Tire Size: 285/70R17 Hankook Dynapro MT's
Gear Ratio if you know it: Factory 4.56
2WD or 4WD: 4WD
Modifications that affect MPG: 2.5-4.5 inch lift, SW FB 90lbs
Current highway fuel economy: 18 MPG (I average 16.5)
Automatic or manual transmission: Manual
4 cyl or 6 cyl: I4 3RZ
I used to get 23 on the highway in stock form.
I was averaging 18.5 for 10 years on 275/70R16's on stock 99 talls.

but in my defense... my 99 ALWAYS got 16-17 MPG freeway even before the tires...
calculation my 99 MPG....
252.9 Miles * 1.035 (3.5% larger tire) = 261.7515 Miles
261.5515 miles / 15 gal's = 17.4 MPG
*************
Doh, just look at full specs of my tire, it's both a 285/70r16 AND 32x11.5r16 so that's 3.6% OR 4.6% larger, I've been using 3.5% lets see what the larger would be?
calculation my 99 MPG....
252.9 Miles * 1.046 (4.6% larger tire) = 261.7515 Miles
261.5515 miles / 15 gal's = 17.6 MPG
*************
now, that only related to .2 MPG correction...
252.9/15 = 16.86 MPG... which is .74 MPG calculated increase...
So if I didn't calculate the correction, it's safe to say, better than 16.86

Haha I love your detail! Yes it wasn't much of a difference but a difference none the less! Thanks for your reply. Keep 'em coming!

Since I went from 225/75-15 tires to 265/70-17 tires, there is approximately a 13% difference in rolling diameter of the tires. I have a Dakota Digital speedometer calibrator adjusting for that so that my speedometer reads exactly the same (GPS verified) as the original tires. That way, I can continue to use the odometer for miles travelled, just like before.

Wow 56 posts, consider me impressed! I'd love to hear some more from people running P/SL rated tires in at least a 32, what is your highway MPG?

1999 4Runner Limitedn w/ 200k
It all makes sense - tune, tires, gearing and year model are the variables.
I'm getting 17mpg on average with a '99 model at 200k, clearly not as refined as a later model 3rd gen, much less even newer years.
My 2003 Tundra gets closer to 19 or 20 with the same engine and almost same mileage. Tweaks are what get anything more.
I gotta keep it under 70 on the freeway if I want any better fuel mileage.

What are your HIGHWAY mpg's?
Best so far is 20mpg, my drive to work is almost 40mi one way. Normally it's no traffic one way, and stop and go (1hr 20) on the way home. Last tank was 19.4, both of which were minimal around city driving. 98 Limited w/320k, stock everything, vehicle is new to me.
