That's a damn good deal for a 1 owner rig. I figured you got a pretty sweet deal when you said you saw it yesterday and bought it today. lol

The only important things I couldn't tell from the records was if the rad & lbj's were changed. The timing belt was the main thing. I dont want to do that! I got him down because the valve cover gaskets are leaking towards the back & were dripping on the exhaust manifolds. They started smoking when it warmed up. I actually smelled it first.
4WD, AWD & the locker all engaged no problem! He even let me take it out for a test drive in the snow storm because he knew I was a T4R owner & showed him pics of my rig.

Locker? It has an e-locker too? Yeah, good find and great deal. Valve cover gaskets are a piece of cake.

I actually narrowed my search down to a 05-09 4th gen V8 sport, they really are a good looking rigs with a small lift & more aggressive tires. I'll post a pic below of the one I was thinking about buying. That's why I was lurking in your 4th gen build. I was going to steal your "snot nose kid" mod for my "drooling dog" mod LOL But I found this 99 online last night & pulled the trigger today. Rare 3rd gens get the heart pumping!
I don't have much seat time in the V6, this was my 3rd time driving one.
Two years ago we were searching for a 3rd gen for my GF & never found anything great. I test drove 2 & coming from a 3rz they don't feel under powered to me at all! LOL In AWD with the ETC on they powered right up the hills I was driving on. My last 3 DD's have been A/T's. 01 Corolla, 01 Accord Coupe & now an 09 Accord Coupe, they're great in traffic but not as fun to drive. But I will get back to you on it.

That's definitely a good one. That 4th gen you were looking at wasn't bad either... the salsa red pearl is a nice color. My wife's 4th gen is just about done, I just need to install the SPC arms I have in the garage and get the alignment dialed. The 4th gens are really nice for a DD, I wish we had the room/need for another one with a V8.
Now that I've had the Tacoma a few years, I'm still happy my 4Runner is auto. The Tacoma is fun, fun, fun to drive with the 5 speed, short shifter, SC and 4.56 gears but I still prefer my 4Runner for long trips and general wheeling. The Tacoma is nice for day trips and blasting curvy mountain roads.
Did you test drive any 4th gens? I'll tell you for sure that my wife's rig would easily smoke both the Tacoma and my 4Runner with it's bone stock 4.0 V6. That 4 liter engine has some pep, and is nuts with a SC. I had a ride in a 6 speed FJ with a SC 4.0 and it absolutely romped!
Speaking of drooling over new rigs... this one has my eye right now>

Yup. I open it every day, read the ad front to back, look at all the pics, stare at it for about 5 minutes, then close it and tell myself I don't need another F/R locked rig sitting in the driveway... two is enough.
Then I say to myself: "well... I am going to sell the Tacoma. I could have three for a little while."
Only 136K, too. You rarely see them under 200K. I missed one 3 or 4 years ago that was triple locked, immaculate, about 145K, one owner and sold for $6K. I was at work and it was gone in less than an hour.

I just might fly to NM to buy one then. To give you an idea of the market I'm dealing with here's one near me.

If you do go look at it please let me know what condition it's really in. I'm tempted to say the least.

wow! It's a steal for $8500. Low miles for a triple locked LC.

I never had a problem with the 5 speed on long trips. It cruises in 5th at 80 that little 3RZ! I drove a 4.0 4th twice when shopping for my GF. It was nice. One had the drive shaft clunk that scared me away at the time. (thought it was the trans) & the other went all crazy flashing lights when I tried to put it in 4H & walked on that one too. We ended up getting her an 04 Outback LL Bean 3.0 H6. One owner with only 37K on it. That little car is fast. It looks like an old lady car, she drives like an old lady & gets mad at me when I drive it places because I put it through the paces. I tell her, "you got to open this thing up once in a while" & it's a bigger motor than my T4R! LOL
I never looked at FJ's because I need the cargo room for the 3 dogs & I hear the blind spots are horrible.
That LC is 10-12K around here with 200K on it all day!

I'd be worried about Wisconsin rust. E-Mail the guy for undercarriage pics.

Congrats on the new to you 3rd gen!
The 80 LC is a good price if the mileage is correct. The 80 series came with lockers I believe both front and back as standard (if not please correct me). The 80 series have its infamous head gasket issue so check that.
If it is a 5 speed, the AD will be removed by now!

The F/R lockers were optional. It seems like they show up on about 25% of the 80s that I see listed FS. They were not offered with a 5 speed in the US as far as I know.

Yea, I wouldn't have bought it if it was a plain old Limited. I need something unique, locker, 5 speed or S/C for fun & resale value. Otherwise I would have saved more for an 05 V8 Sport.

Funny you say that... I'd rather do timing belts all day versus ball joints and valve cover gaskets!
Looks like a nice score!

@ Scramble
! Dude that's awesome
I think you'll love the V6 auto. They're super smooth, and just plain nice.
I like the 5 speed more, but I'd love to have an auto too. Some things about the auto is just awesome. I'd prefer an auto for off-road for sure, but I like the 5 speed for bombin around town and backroads.
Anyway, congrats!
