San Diego- Any interest in a FREE rear window up/down/ hatch pop mod to your 3rd Gen?

Hey everyone-

I own a 4th Gen and installed a switch allowing the rear window to roll up and down while camping in the back. Additionally, I installed a button for popping the rear hatch. Video below:

I have already installed a few on 4th gens as well as did a 5th gen install. I am looking for a guinea pig with a 3rd gen who would be willing to to stop by my place for a few hours (possibly lending a hand and taking pictures) while I do this install. Any takers? Cost to you is nothing!

Located in San Diego.

I got really excited until I remembered 3rd gens don't have powered rear lock actuators...

Theoretically, a momentary button and a door lock actuator (aftermarket, I would assume) could do it.

Agh! Good to know (I dont know my way around a 3rd gen yet). That said, 3rd gens do have the rear window up-down actuation via the rear door lock correct?

In other words, if you walk up to the back, put your key in the rear hatch key lock and twist it one way, the window goes up, and the other way the window down?

Yeah, that part is the same. The switch at the front communicates to the back door ECU via the 'Multiplex Communication Bus" so you'd have to tap in to the connections at the door lock, not on the harness as it heads to the door in the body.

edit: re-watched the video - the door locking and unlocking is mechanical, so that function wouldn't work on a 3rd gen door either. It has the same 'delay' on key turn for the window actuation though.

lol, bad phrasing... I meant the "pop out" feature that the newer gens seem to have.

The rear window switch has been done. I bought a switch but never got around to doing it.

Remote rear window button
