SRQ / True North Fabrications DIY Front Bumper Kit

True North Fabrications 96-02 4runner DIY Plate Bumper

Sold here: https://www.srqfabrications.com/prod...y-plate-bumper

UPDATED 3/8/2018: First batch of 20 bumpers have been delivered. Next batch will be available in late March.

Price: Starts at $499
Shipping: $100 to the lower 48!

Most DIY bumper kits include dozens of small flat pieces of metal and require hours of lining up, welding, and grinding; which can be incredibly frustrating and time-consuming. We set out to design a DIY bumper kit unlike any other. All the parts are laser cut and press bent with slotted and tabbed edges. This means it requires a fraction of the welding and grinding compared to other kits. With the built-in tabs, the bumper pieces line up perfectly and don't require you to consistently be checking measurements. You don’t even need to have the bumper on the 4runner to be able to tack it together!

7 Gauge HRPO Steel: Frame mounting plate, winch plate, pre 99 adapter plates, main supports, skis supports
11 Gauge HRPO Steel: Everything else
Shackle mounts: 1/2" thick steel with a 1" hole

Shackle mounts (pair): $10
Grille guard tubing (stinger): $35

Weight: Approx. 75lbs

The bumper was modeled around a warn m8000 winch that has a 10" x 4.5" mounting pattern and centered fairlead/spool. Other winches may fit (similar size and mounting pattern required). Depending on the winch size you will possibly need to detach and relocate the control box.

We realized that these bumpers are going to be mounted on 20-year-old vehicles and the chances of each and every one of them having a perfect frame with no previous front-end damage are slim. So in order to offer the best fitment possible, we made all the mounting points as oversized slots instead of exact holes. This will give you about an inch of play left to right and about 1/4 inch up and down.

If you have a 96–98 4runner you will have to a little extra work prior to mounting the bumper. The bumper was designed using the mounting pattern on 99–02 4runners, all earlier years will receive adaptor plates that must be welded to the front of the frame rails to convert it to the updated and stronger design. New bolts will be included as well.

All the parts are shipped as uncoated raw steel.

The below photos are of a prototype bumper mounted. Since these photos were taken, the design has changed slightly. The two main differences are the lower skid plate area and the sides of the bumper that wraps around the body. In these photos the sides are a flat piece of metal, however, this has been changed and can be seen in the 3D model photos above. The new design includes pre-bent pieces that fit the body line better.

Any side profile pictures to get an idea of how far it sticks out? It doesn't appear to be much, but angles can be deceiving.

Sticks out 4.5” past the grille. Won’t find many bumpers that sit this close in!

Damn, this looks nice! If anyone in Washington knows a welder who would take this on, let me know, would love to talk to them before placing money down. Either way, love how close it sits, etc. Nice work!

edit: any shots directly straight on? Wondering how it looks with the fender flares.

Yeah, I like this a lot.
What you changed from the prototype made a world of difference. The awkward step in the main wings made it look funky/chunky.
Nice work SRQ / True North Fabrications DIY Front Bumper Kit
Looking forward to seeing some welded up!

Yep, that's the one. Less expensive that many of the more popular brands AND it's a perfect lead in to the "jeez babe, we really need a welder" talk with the wife.

That looks awesome, I just so happen to be in the market.

When ordering do we have flexibility to add to the main hoop design?

I like the reinforced hoop that Badlands does -

That’d be something you’d have to add on your own. All kits are prebuilt and cut in orders of 20+ which means a one off kit would be a lot more money.

The larger holes are 4” and the smaller holes are 2.375” (designed for a 2” light with rubber grommet)

Not sure why you'd want to add lower hoops on that plate bumper. Seems like it would just decrease the approach angle.

If you wanted to reinforce it, I'm guessing internal gussets would be your bets bet.

Sorry I wasn’t clear - I meant the 2 diagonal pieces on top that extend out from the main hoop that kinda protect the headlights.

Anyway, sounds like something is source myself.
