Was this question & answer regarding the 6112 struts between the 3rd gen 4runner & 1st gen Tundra?

Yes, So the 1st gen Tundra has stiffer valving in the shocks then the 3rd Gen version.

Was the Tundra 6112 a direct fit or did you have to change the lower mounting bushing?

Tundra one is a direct fit using the stock bolt. The bottom mount is WAY beefier than the 4runner 5100.👍 Just use your stock top hat and the whole setup will bolt right in. Just have to decide what spring to run.

Do you use the 4Runner top hat rubber isolator as well or a Tundra top hat rubber isolator with the 4Runner top hat?

Tundra 6112
Hey, love your posts. How are you finding 6112 now? I'm looking at tundra or 4runner set up. Will not be getting a bumper until I get a good deal but definitely would love one. Right now it will be stock for a bit. Suggestions ? Would you recommend tundra or 4runner 6112. Do you think you can still get 2 inch lift on the tundra 6112 with stock weight ?

Bumping this because I get tons of questions about my front suspension and unfortunately I went for the 4runner 6112s with a 650lb spring. Hindsight 2020 i shouldve went for the Tundra 6112s as I have full skids, plate bumper, winch, and could use the extra 1" of extended length over the 4runner 6112s.

i thought there was only very minimal difference in extended lengths between the two? I read somewhere that the Tundra version has an extended length of 18.35" vs the 18.27" extended length of the 4Runner version

There is a little bit less than 0.5" inch of shock travel which equates to 1" of wheel travel.

Tundra 6112 13.23-18.35 total-5.12
4Runner 6112 13.66-18.27 total-4.61
The difference is about an inch wheel travel from compressed to extended between the two

So really, even with stock weight on our 3rd gens, wouldn't we be better off going with tundra 6112's (600lb spring if possible) and running them at lower perches? This would give the most wheel travel and room to adjust for weight/ add stiffer springs if needed in the future

not clear of what spring you can run with this setup - anyone have any links to 650lb or 700lb springs?..

The 4Runner 6112's come with 600 lb/in springs. Wheeler's has optional 650 lb/in or 700 lb/in springs BILSTEIN 6112 HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE FRONT SHOCK AND COIL PAIR FOR 1996-2002 4RUNNER (47-258624)
The Tundra 6112's come with 650 lb/in springs.
Any 14" spring designed for a 2.5" shock body will work as well.
