Spare and box mounting better 1, 2, or 3? I can't really remove the crossmember with the hump in it as I want to keep the gas tank.

I like the trailer cover with dual doors allowing for access on each side. Any plans to add a rack on the trailer? Realize that you have one of course on the 4Runner...

Are you going to extend the tongue? Let that be your guide on the spare placement - you need all the turning radius you can get so you can jackknife the trailer as much as possible.

It's a Gem Top Commercial cover for a 2014 Nissan Frontier. Craigslist find for $100. Eventually (after cyclocross season) it is getting a rack as low as I can get it while still allowing access and then side bars just above the wheel opening for when I slide it around trees.

The tongue is getting extended quite a bit - and a different towing system than a 1 7/8 ball. But hey - the trailer was only $250.

I personally like the look of the wheel behind the tongue box, but with an extended tongue, it might be better in front for access purposes.
As for a ball hitch off road... they just don't work! I took my little utility trailer on an easy access road to a desert camp site (filled with bonfire wood) and did a number on the coupler/ball - both with the dirt ingress and just bending it from very mild articulation. What coupler system are you going with?

No one said anything about going with a ball hitch for off-road adventures. It is getting a lunette ring for off-road and a 2" ball for on-road. Will be doing double duty behind the truck camper.

Sorry, didn't mean to insinuate that you thought it would work offroad! I was just saying I have personal experience with it not working even on really mild offroading - like, stuff I would be willing to take a lowered Subaru on...

I used to "off road" my subie too. It was fun to see how far off the ground you could hang a tire.

Sweet!
Been way too busy with other stuff to do anything toward fixing this (except for lengthening my link to compensate and get the wheelbase matching between the sides). This led to to realize that the impact that collapsed my mount also bent my axle shaft on that side. Guess that is what I get for screwing around at the back on the Dusy trip.
Posted a new thread on my thoughts walking through this issue - Lower Link Mount Reinforcement

Looks great! Are they compatible with Lotus skids, or do they eliminate the need for those?

You would have to remove Lotus skids to put them on.

@ rkntoy
,
Have you installed fender flares yet? If so, care to share which ones you used?
Also, are you still glad you went 37's? Have you had any issues? I'm asking cause I'm gonna jump up to 35's or maybe 37's this year, and since I have the twin to your 4runner, I would like to hear your thoughts.
Thanks
Durwin

Wow - missed this one. Have not done the flares yet. Have been working over in Salem so have not been driving it around much. Still have them to put on, just other priorities. I got a set of the 2001-2002 SR5 flares and my plan is to epoxy in bolts after I gut the insides of them.
I am still glad I went 37s - especially with the dual t-cases. Much easier to roll over things. I am putting on some Solo Motorsports LCAs to move the tires a bit forward and this should help rubbing on the frame and firewall.
