Do it! Clean aluminum looks best on wheels in my opinion.

hmmm i dont and i took the layflat flap out knowing we wouldnt be camping this season.
I kind of winged it in that i laid the big flap down level and measured to get an idea of how tall the support needed to be. Then realized the seat backs would give a little with the extra weight so i added an inch or so for that. I was hoping that gravity would drop it down automatically but with the carpet and all it needed assistance to drop into place. Also, in the very end, it wasnt quite level and i ended up trimming one side more to get a truly flat surface.

Clear coat on the cleaned up aluminum wheels will be a good look. A 2k clear would be a good option to give it a tougher finish and better chemical resistance. I like the cheaper cost and longer shelf life of 1k aerosols but sucks how quickly it fades/dissolves when it comes in contact with solvents.

Eastwood & spraymax have good quality 2k aerosols. Both would hold up really well to solvents, brake cleaner etc. I've noticed a pretty significant difference in durability between catalyzed (2k) & uncatalyzed paint especially with solvents. Main downside is once activated, the 2k paint has a shelf life of a few hours before it completely hardens up & becomes unsprayable.

Noice! sold me, thanks man. Reviews are pretty damn good and I'd love to spend 40 bucks on a couple one-time use cans vs finding a powdercoater just for clear and spending a couple hundred.

Related note, these came in early so i have some work to catch up on.
UntitledUntitled

as seen in the other thread, wasn't planning on getting tires now but they were almost 100 bucks off on simpletire at a slightly larger size so i had to pull the trigger.
hoping to get the wheels cleaned up this weekend and tires mounted next week.

update: got the wheels all done and cleared, ready for mounting

Untitled

Used the Spraymax 2K high gloss(thanks @fourfive ) and it went on so well, hopefully it holds up just as well, good stuff so far for sure.

got the tires on and balanced

Just a test fit, need to swap my extended studs in as well as wait for new bolts to replace the rivets and centercaps to come in. This was mostly to check clearances on UCA and brakes with the 1/4" spacer. i have plenty of room with the UCA for no spacer but the wheels touch the tundra brakes without a spacer
so i'll have extra UCA clearance, just enough between wheel and brake and with the slightly taller tire, a chance that i'll need to cut more pinch weld.

also got the cupholder i made with my new 3d printer in and it works muuuuch better than factory. Also holds a larger bottle so thats nice

Wheels turned out great. Always liked the tread pattern on the dynapro mt. Are those 285/75/16?

Now if they had some Aisin manual hubs in the center, they would be perfect!

Thank you for your help! that clear turned out so damn good and didnt flinch at having the tires mounted. The tires are 295/75/16 which i found to be randomly about a 100 bucks cheaper than the same 285s so i had to try em out for that price. They're about an inch taller than the 285/70/17s but those wheels are also 9"

Got the studs swapped out for the longboi Lexus ones. they didn't have to be quite this long but i didnt know how big of a spacer i would need when i ordered them and the enclosed ET style nuts still fit on the new wheels with the spacer so its all good.

these were easier than expected to get out, didnt have the little press so an old nut and a hammer worked fine.
UntitledUntitledUntitled

I did run into the small issue of my Tundra brakes once again being in the way.
they were touching in the teeniest amount on the lower cylinder of the caliper and didn't want to run a bigger spacer or different wheel. i considered just tapping the caliper with the grinder but ultimately decided instead to run the die grinder around the inside edge of the wheel(wheels were 40 bucks, brakes were significantly more). Only took off a mil or 2 at most and sure enough the next test fit it cleared completely.
Untitled

Starting to understand why you dont see many of these old wheels

still waiting on the bolts to replace the rivets and center caps to come in.
attempted to 3D print a centercap but it did not turn out unfortunately. Need to look into the cause but everything ended up off kilter
Screen Shot 2020-06-01 at 11.21.20 AMUntitledUntitled

update:
got the bolts in from fastenal for the wheels to replace the rivets.
pretty happy with the outcome but would have definitely waited and mounted tires after next time, quite a pain to hug the tires to reach the other side.
