Dome Light Fuse issue

The freaking dome light fuse is driving me nuts. I bought it with this issue and just drive it with no radio or electronic door locks.

I cant figure out where the short is. I am amost positive it is something from a leaking sun roof. But I have no idea for sure

Does anyone have a diagram of the wiring from that fuse?

Ive been searching threads on here and cant really find anything.

That doesn't tell the whole story by a long shot. The DOME fuse is key off power for a ton of systems, not just the interior lights, e.g.:

Auto Antenna
Cigarette Lighter and Clock
Combination Meter
Headlight (w/ Daytime Running Light)
Interior Light
Radio and Player.

The usual suspects are add-on circuits like alarms and remote starts and stereo systems.

If those are ruled out, I can troubleshoot, but the OP needs to give THE YEAR. (pet peeve)

I noticed it must control a lot.
It is a 98 SR5 3.4 with after market radio.

I am going to take the radio out and then test the amps on the fuse spot. But the radio looks old so I am guessing it worked at some point. The auto antenna is busted off. The ceiling has water stains and so the dome light wires could be all messed up and shorted.

I am just going to have to look one by one at these areas and see if I can figure out the where the issue is.

That's a good way to start. I always begin by pulling the radio on these. These things often involve physical damage or corrosion that can be found with the old Mark I eyeball. Troubleshooting it analytically can be an awful lot of work, but you always get there, so that's Plan B.

We have a saying around work: 90% of electrical problems are mechanical.

Like TheDurk says, start with the easy things: Aftermarket parts, radio, clock, then look for mechanical problems - driver's door wiring boot, rear hatch wiring boot, etc.

Did you ever resolve this? I just had this issue start today. I was installing new LED lights in the dash and was working on the clock and now I don't have a radio or dome lights. Everything else seems to be working though.

Did you have a chance to check the DOME fuse under the hood? It controls dome light + radio. It should be 15 amps.
Give that a shot.

Interesting. 2 day old 05 4runner owner here. I did find a fuse box diagram and see a 15a fuse for the dome but I didn't see anything for the radio...

A little background: I just bought the car and the previous owner took out his aftermarket stereo and mounted the stock back in, unplugged apparently. I haven't had a chance to check all but it looks like so far: the radio, side mirror controls and dome lights do not work as expected (do the ones in the front count?). I haven't tested some of the other accessories like the cigarette lighter yet.

Any luck on this? I bought mine a few months ago - the dome lights and side mirrors did not work and I don't have anything with a cigarette lighter adapter to test those. Radio wasn't installed so wasn't able to test that but have since installed a new head unit and works as expected.

Looking to get the dome lights and side mirrors working but don't know where to start...

If you have an 05 you should be looking in the 4th gen section, not the 3rd gen section.
