Hesitation anytime gas is pressed

Hey guys

So I have been trying to solve a pretty annoying hesitation issue. Anytime i let off the gas or take off from a light, i get a half second hesitation before the gas kicks in, almost like the throttle is taking a breath before it goes.

I have cleaned the MAF, just put in a new fuel filter, new throttle potion sensor and the plugs/wires are relatively new.

I made a video. Any other ideas i should try? Maybe tearing into the throttle body?

Thanks!

Mine does the same, there is a lag when I mash the pedal to pass somebody for example. I thought it might be the kickdown cable but I have it adjusted it to what the service manual says. Or maybe the TPS?

I replaced the TPS thinking that was it too but didn't fix it.

check the resistance of the maf should be 2.2 -2.7 kilo, ohms it could be bad.

No check engine light at all.

How do you test the resistance? Just put a meter on the pins? If it was bad wouldn't it throw a code?

I know you said you cleaned the MAF, but when I first got my '99 it was doing something similar. It would lag a half second when the throttle went down, and the revs would hang a little when you let up. Which was really annoying with the manual trans.

It would also occasionally set a CEL - can't recall the code but basically saying O2 sensor out of bounds.

It ended up being a fouled MAF. The PO had stuck on an over-enthusiastically oiled K&N filter - some of the oil (presumably) had gotten on the MAf hot wire, and given it a fuzzy little blanket of soot. Which made it slow to respond to changing volumes of air going across it. So it would do a lean bog when the pedal went down, and a little over-rich spike on throttle close.

Cleaned the MAF, it all went away, THis was after I'd done various other things that didn't help at all. Adjusting the throttle cable, tweaking that pneumatic throttle stop, cleaning the idle control valve/throttle body.

agree wtih above, when I bought mine it had a drop in K&n filter, similar issues, cleaned the maf, got rid of the k&m adjusted the throttle cables ( good write up someplace on forum), cleaned the throttle body and the ICV changed plugs and issue gone............

The maf can be working but still out of spec and and not throwing a code.
The engine response often means the air/fuel mixture is not being properly enriched or is going lean.
if you have a obd-II* scanner (you can buy one for around $30 and download torque app)check the data at idle of Long term fuel trim (banks 1 and 2),Sort Term fuel trim
MAF sensor input
AIT sensor input (Also need actual outside air temperature when you take this reading. will give you a better picture.

ohm test maf sensor

Just an update for everyone who helped!

I decided to just order a new MAF. Got a denso part 197-6020 for $70 off Amazon.

Works perfectly. Throttle response is great! No more hesitation!

Thanks guys.
