DeMuro's 4Runner ranking

Looks like we won. ;)

https://www.autotrader.com/car-news/...81474979855121

Personally, this is my order as well. I want all the gens, but the second gen definitely gets the most hate despite being the most iconic.

of course we win. but I have a hard time putting the 1st gen in dead last place.

My rank would be:

3rd,
1st,
5th,
4th,
2nd.

Nothing with a removable top should be last. Ever.

you're right. That's why I put the 2nd gen last, and the 1st gen first.

2nd gen definitely last... no doubt. I like all the gens though, the 2nd gen would only appeal to me in 2-door form. Otherwise, the 3rd gen completely takes the cake over the 2nd gen in every way.

My list...

3rd gen
1st gen
5th gen
4th gen
2nd gen

I guess, but honestly I wouldn't be into 3rd gens if they continued the removable top. I think 1st gens are in a group on their own. They're more comparable to Wranglers than XJs.

I feel like his point is valid though.

Quote:
Although it's basically sacrilege to say the first generation of anything is the "worst," I think it applies here. The original 4Runner was slow, incredibly trucklike and not very desirable for most people. Some will insist that's the point -- and those are the people who own original 4Runners. For the rest of us, who prefer even the slightest creature comforts, it's not for us -- and if the 4Runner had stayed trucky and basic like this, I have no doubt its limited appeal would've ensured it never saw the 2000s.

Yeah.

I might even put the 4th before the 5th- only because I actually really enjoy power. The 4th with a V8 has great power; the 5th has super meh power.
The 5th looks great, but it also feels cheap.
A long travel 5th gen with an iForce 5.7 or 6.0 LS would be dreamy DeMuro's 4Runner ranking

I've owned 1st, 2nd and 3rd gens. Still have my 2nd generation and it's my favorite body style. 1st are really nice too. 3rd generation not bad but looks wise starting to go downhill . 4th really looks bad-worse than current year. Less robust suspensions too starting with 3rd, though certainly more comfortable. 3rd generation also have a sunroof that shrunk available headroom, a problem for taller drivers such as myself. 3rd generation and forward have way better engines though. So many people love the 22RE but not so much with me. 3rd generation last generation that doesn't seem so damn big.

So, I will go: 2,3,1.
The rest of them? Dunno, no doubt they're very nice.
