4 years late, but thought I'd include this for those googlers like me.
You can still get it into programming mode by manually using the key in the lock rather than the lock/unlock switch on the door. So you don't need to have a functioning actuator to program it.
Though it also means your fob won't lock/unlock that door so it's a bit of a wash
