TREDS Mounted on Savage rear swingout. Your honest opinion!

So I made this today.... 4 TREDS mounted on the back of the spare tire on savage-offroad rear swingout bumper. I'd like your honest opinion on this. Some might say, get another swingout. But its not cheap.... and its a lot heavier than this set up. Yes, it does stick out a little bit but not that bad. At least in my opinion. Couple reasons why I did not go with vertical position. First, these TREDS are long! And either they will stick up pretty high, or hang almost lower then bumper. Which this might be a issue when off roading. Could possibly hang up on something. Another is drag on highway. I think in vertical it would have more of tendency to give more resistance. Now, I'm not 100% sure i'll run this set up daily. I did this because, in June I'm going to Virginia for few nights. I need all the roof rack space I can get. So the black board that the TREDS are on is made out of HDPE 1/2". All the hardware are stainless steel. I used 1/2" stainless threaded rod that I cut down. It weights not a lot but a decent amount. If this bumper can handle a 35" tire. I don't think this is heavier than that. I drove the truck around for couple hours today. Over the bumps it had some wobble. But nothing dramatic. The usual, such as without the TREDS. Although I think I could tighten up the red handle a little more. Again, I might keep this set up daily or I might just use it for overland trips to free up roof rack space. Currently I don't have a lock integrated. It is held very sturdy by a ratchet strap. I will however upgrade it to a more beefier one. I'm pretty happy how it came out. Please share your thoughts and opinions. Be honest or be brutally honest. Lets share ideas and thoughts. I understand ideally a second swingout set up would look better.

From the front it. It does not pass the side so nothing to worry.

TREDS Mounted on Savage rear swingout. Your honest opinion!

I don't like how far out it sticks, and I really don't like the ratchet strap for securing the mount. I completely understand why you did what you did, and it's tough to find a good spot to mount 4 boards on your rig.
I think stacked on the roof would be much nicer. What does the roof look like when you have stuff up there- like you mentioned you'll be doing soon?
Also, I definitely wouldn't leave them unattended if they aren't locked up!

Haven’t had chance to set up my roof because I’m monstalining it. The ratchet strap goes through the rim and around. In the pic it looks like it only goes around the tire. But it snakes through the rim and back out.

That rear swingout doesn't drag all over when wheeling up very steep inclines?

Brutal honesty? I chuckle to myself every time I see TREDS and/or snorkels.
Keep it light, keep it simple, don't over complicate.
The less things you have protruding from the vehicle the better.
The workmanship does look good though!

it would suck to lose that investment to an oxygen thief with a rope wrench.

Mine doesn't. To drag my spare I would be dragging my rear bumper at about the same time.

Personally, I'd be more concerned just with being seen in public with lime green max treds and a pink camo trasharoo. I'm assuming these aren't mounted 24/7, just for wheeling trips. Then who cares what it looks like as long as it works and doesn't hang up/fall off. It'll be covered by mud and dust in no time...

Your rig is badass looking man. I’m not in the NJ area but do you need 4 of those?

As far as mounting goes, perhaps an alternative would be putting them on the roof?

Maybe ditch the pink trasheroo bag and swap the tracks around so amy green is facing out, not lime green.

I wheel my truck. And TREDS have came in handy when there was no trees around for winch. I went through some deep water. Few times the depth was hood high. Last thing I want, is to get stuck in a hole while water crossing. And suck in water. And yes. My snorkel set up is water tight. Not just slapped together.

@JayRolla , it does not drag on anything and I’ve been on some steep stuff.

Brutal honest opinion:

Impressive build. I like what you've done, and I like how OCD you are about cleaning salt off your truck like me in winter.

but I don't like the trash bag thing hanging on the back. I've seen this on a bunch of rigs. Just not my style, but then again I don't do off-roading/camping. I'm sure it comes in handy for those scenarios.

I like the solution, but personally, I would affix them to the roof. If you're worried about MPG, then downsize your tires too (again you wanted honesty).

Also paint the bumper on the Corolla. It bothers me.

I'd do roof or keep them inside the back. It just sticks out too far off the back of the tire and takes away from the clean and simple lines of your rig

Top, inside or how about between the spare and vehicle, there appears to be enough room towards the upper half of the spare. Luck and enjoy!
