How do I replace the gear shift knob on manual transmission?

The leather, or fake leather covering on my gear shift knob started fraying and the edges were poking into my hand, so I pulled that material down. Underneath it is some black stuff that's kind of sticky and gets on my hands, so that's not acceptable for long. How do I remove the knob and put a new one on?

Never mind. It screws off. It was tough so I thought there might be a screw somewhere. Ha ha!! There is one loose in my head, that's for sure.

Have you tried unscrewing it yet? Righty tighty, lefty loosey.

There's a thread about replacement shift knobs floating around in the 3rd gen forums IIRC.

Yeah, lol! See, I figured it out, but I didn't know how to delete the thread, so I said "Never mind" down at the bottom. At first it seemed like it wouldn't turn, so I thought there might be some kind of screw somewhere that I wasn't finding. Thanks for your response though!!
