4Runner washer reservoir volume? 2 liter or 5 liter

What is the volume of a washer fluid reservoir for a our 4Runners? There are two choices of 2.5L and 5.0L. Just seeing if anyone knows the standard size??

And I want to know the REASON why there are two options? One for 4 cylinder and one for 6???

Let me know if you find the reservoirs reasonably priced somewhere.

Mine cracked after it took on a rock that got slung from my tire. I've looked for replacements and they are stupid expensive, even on Ebay. It seems as if after market replacements don't exist like they do for other vehicles.

I'll keep using the scrubber and squeegee at the gas station until I can find a new reservoir for less than $50.

I can't wait to figure out the real answer as the WHY the two choices.

I actually need the SHIELD that protects it, clip broke.

My V6 Runner when empty will take 5/8 gallon roughly to fill to strainer, so I'd say that is 2.5L size.

Why, could the engine bay layout be different V6 to I4, I can't say without searching net for picture since I've never owned or seen one.

Well, now that's odd. Mine is v6 too, but has the 5.0L size.... Does your's have a rear washer nossel?

Yes it does, that is odd, now you have me wondering. I remember filling the 96
one time from where it wasn't spraying or puking and it took a gallon.
My 01 which I mentioned, from no spraying/ puking 5/8-3/4 gal to fill.

Ok, so maybe 96-98 5.0L, and 99-02 or 01-02 the smaller one?

And on german cars and others, the washer tank is printed with the capacity. Duh, you'd think all manufactures would do this. Also, there is NO PART NUMBER on the tank anywhere!

A SWAG: Perhaps there exists a jurisdiction where vehicles - with all fluids - are taxed higher when exceeding a certain weight. If you're right at that margin how can you drop a few pounds? A smaller washer reservoir, perhaps?

Manufacturers have resorted to many odd things over the years to meet weight limits. Many readers of this forum are likely aware of the single thin coat of paint on the original Jeep to meet a weight limit:

Instead, (Barney Roos) and his staff ruthlessly attacked the body and chassis. They shortened bolts and cotter pins, reduced the sizes of nuts and washers, and cut the thickness of steel in the body and fenders. In the frame, they substituted lighter alloys for the heavy carbon steel. They even stripped down to just one coat of olive-drab paint, shedding nearly 10 pounds in the process. When their weight loss program was finished, Willys met the army specification—with just seven ounces to spare.

I have had great luck patching reservoirs with something like shoe goo or Goop. My upper inner mount was fractured and after a good cleaning and wipe down with something like lacquer thinner I layered on some thick beads of the adhesive over the cracked area.
