Well, I got the Extreme X6S Slim mounted, wired, and aimed over the weekend! Everything went fairly smooth, although it was no simple task with my custom rack. I started by buying these 1" tube brackets made by Quixxsmart (Product #2534T33 from McMaster-Carr). (Pic 1)
While those were on their way, I wired in the harness by routing through the driver fender and up the door seal. I know there is quite a bit of controversy about the best way to get juice up to the roof, whether it be drilling a hole through the roof, going external down the windshield or door trim, implementing a shortwave microwave link, broadcasting a BLE (bluetooth low energy) signal, slapping on a 16ft solar panel, bolting on a 4G LTE Router... Oh shoot, did I mention there are lots of ways to do this?
I figured I'd go as unobtrusive as possible, so door trim it was. As I stand here in the rainy midwest, I can say that it doesn't leak and the door still closes quite nicely- there is a fairly large cavity to squeak the wire casing into. (Pic 2)

I then started to mock up how I wanted the bar to sit. I found it easily cradling my 1" tube, so I wanted to work with a simple design that clamped from the sides, but allowed the bar to naturally sit on the tube to allow for a few degrees of rotation. The clamps came in, and I decided to only use the bottom half, and machine a couple of AL bars that served as brackets...

A couple hours later... and I have a nice set of very custom fitted brackets that, well, aren't perfect, but for what I wanted (a beefy , semi-adjustable set of mounts from a singular piece of 8x1x3/4 6061 I had laying around), I think they are going to serve me well and look at least halfway decent.

The hardest part was getting the angles right, centering the bar, and keeping it fairly compact. I'm happy as a clam though- what do you guys think?

Wrapping up the last evening of my Yooper Venture, the Iceberg has been treating me well in the sand up 'ere in the UP. I'll have a trip report and more pics once I get back.

I spent 4 nights and 1,000 miles exploring the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with my brother, from Munising to Whitefish Point. Superior was at an all time high, but awesome nonetheless. The mosquitos were absolutely positively the worst I have ever been around in my entire life, with spray, PICs, and Thermacells going they were still rampant. It was neat though, they carried me up and gave me a nice aerial view of the lake a few times! And swarms of hundreds of black flies, mmmm. Gotta love it.

We found some awesome beaches and a few rocks that made the skeeters manageable (kinda).

Starting to get some steering wheel shake at ~70 mph with the rig. Think I may have bumped the alignment off while on my last trip. Either way, it's preventing me from able to take the Iceberg out to Lander, WY for a flyfishing trip...
If I wasn't leaving tomorrow, I'd be rushing to get this sorted out asap, but I guess I'll have to live with taking the family car and live with better mpg's and a smoother ride. *sigh*

The Wyoming trip to the Wind Rivers was nuts. Taught a bunch of individuals on the reservation how to flyfish, almost stepped on a rattler, walked in a few sets of bear tracks, and lastly, caught some awesome fish on the fly. I know it's not directly T4R related, but some of the pictures are too cool not to share.
