Ah, my neck of the woods... well, spiritually. I was born and raised in Lander.
What're your plans now that the 3rd is sold?

Lander was wild. A very awesome place next to the one of the most insane batches of land Wyoming has to offer. Right on!
Here are my plans:
Apohl17's AventuRunner Build Thread - V8 4th Gen
We'll see well the 4th treats me
Otherwise, it's back to the 3rd I go! haha

Bump for posterity's sake. I know
@ Ponce11
is treating this ol' girl well, supposedly it got a real paint makeover (layer, polish, & wax) last fall...

Now that it's been a few months, how's shift? Anything you miss about the 3rd Gen or love about 4th Gen that's surprised you?

To be honest, I enjoy the 4th way more than I ever imagined. I have yet to take it on a major adventure yet so my memory bank still resonates with all of the cool places I went in the 3rd, but it really is better in every way, besides the classic look.
Engine - no comparison. (V8 is the way to go)
Space- significantly more room in the driver's quarters and space for storage in the 4th.
MPG - So far 3-4 mpg better than the 3rd over the winter months
Ease to mod/work on - equivalent to the 3rd except for the plastic headlight lens
All in all, they are both 4runners - you can't go wrong. I still love the 3rd gens and I'm sure i'll get into another one in the future - but the 4th is treating me quite well so far!

That's good to hear. Surprising to learn that the mileage is actually better, but I guess the tech improved at lot with the newer engine. I might have to get one of the later year V8's eventually. Can't say I'm a big fan of the knob style 4WD selector, but I guess you get used to it.
