Good tarp/cover for a roof rack?

I use a Yakima MegaWarrior with a "StretchNet" -- an elastic net that attaches to the roof rack, over your gear. To weatherproof my roof stuff, I usually put the gear up, cover it with a tarp, then put the net on.

Tarps suck! The square spaces move, and it tends to gradually put holes in the tarp.

Does anyone have recommendations for putting some kind of high-quality tarp or plastic cover that can handle the abuse/wear from the wind? Normal tarps always seem to deteriorate.

Thanks!

I included a photo of the net in the post

I got a decent Husky cargo bag form Home depot that fits in my Rola roof rack (extended to 3/4 length of roof).

It has webbing straps on the bottom that you can cinch down to the rack. Great for camping in the wet mountains of VT!

I don't have the dimensions close by, but it might work in the Yakima....

my first thought is to get a good piece of canvas. Treat it with water repellent. I would have one big enough to lay the canvas down with excess to the front. put your gear in. Fold over excess on the sides, fold front over the top and tie down. canvas may need to be retreated from time to time

Thanks for the info! This is a great suggestion. I'll go this route when I need maximum protection! I'm in the desert so I don't necessarily need it all the time. But I also go on long trips into wet areas and this will seal up everything perfectly when I need total dryness (electronic equipment up top)

A classic solution! I think I'll go this route first... I don't necessarily need my gear hermetically sealed (husky cargo equipment) right now. Plus the canvas option is cheap! and time-tested

Thanks!
