I would agree there are no actual issues here, but it isn't truly 100% rust free.

Looks like it may have been a "very well taken care of but close to the ocean" truck.

Oh, have you tried fitting those new wheels on the truck with those center caps installed? It looks like they will interfere with the hub interface... Hope that's not the case!

Cant wait to see the wheel/tire combo mounted.

I like the idea of body color matching the roll bar. Would be unique. Do you have plans to use it in a functional way or is it more of an aesthetic mod?

Nice job on the underside too btw.

Man, you're killing me! Haha! Ok, fair enough. I see you're in CA, so I get it. this level of rust seen in the pics is unheard of in NC. Not saying I have some sort of Gem here, but the ones I see in the junkyards around here are there due to frame rot / mounting points rotting. I guess what I was saying is there is zero actual frame rot on this one, unlike a lot of the coastal NC 4Runners here.

But you are correct- maybe 100% rust free isnt literal

And I am nervous about those center caps. I am hoping and praying they'll work, because they were not easy at all to get on. I only installed 2 for this reason- I will check after Hurricane Michael passes

I can't wait either. No functional use for it. I'll likely mount a flashlight and some etc small items. I know its mainly an aesthetic piece. Silver may look good!

So excited to see what the truck looks like with all the new parts. You've got me inspired to deep clean my interior at some point. Looks great!

Good luck. I despise cleaning interiors!

You’ll need caffiene!

Well, even my babied California truck (originally a 2WD garaged commuter) has bits of surface rust where gravel roads have sandblasted the chassis...

Looking forward to seeing this one around town. What junkyard did you find that 4runner in?

The 231 Tundra brakes gonna work with those wheels?

Did that lift kit come with the front coil overs installed with top plates?

Hey, I actually live in Clayton NC, but work in Raleigh, so you certainly may see me around. We need to get a group together in Raleigh!

The 231's will work with these wheels (they're actually Tundra steelies)

The junkyard I go to is "LKQ pick your part" in Clayton off of Hwy 70. They have about 5 3rd Gens right now. One is a 4banger too. Kinda rare.

The Eibachs came installed from Wheeler's Offroad (I suckered in and paid $80 extra for the pre-installation). I dont have a spring compressor at home.

Wave me down if you see me around

Good to know about the wheels. I thought the big tundra brakes on a 3rd gen required spacers and/or 17" wheels.

I'll keep my eye out for you, should be easy to pick out of the crowd.

SUB'd! man, i love where this is going. I absolutely LOVE the wheel and tire combo and nice touch with the center caps. excellent choice.
I say keep the roll bar, either black, or paint it the same color as your wheels. "cool charcoal"
cant wait for more progress pictures!!

Charlie, you were correct unfortunately. I gave everything a test-fit this morning before work. The center caps do interfere with the hub surface, not allowing the wheel to seat tightly.

Back to the drawing board. I will give a shot at modifying these center cap metal tabs, but to be honest, I am not sure I see an immediate way for everything to work which is a shame. I really like these.

...short of grinding the tabs off and JB welding the caps on..

That said, Anyone with a 3rd gen running center caps on Tundra steelies?
