My friend’s older brother once bought a fire truck on CL drunk late night shopping. 1950s. Not too cheap. Wife was livid. He managed to restore it and sell it for a profit though to a town for their parades, etc. The fallout wasn’t pretty though since divorce lawyers were taken on retainer, just in case.

Didn’t know E clips had a born on date.

Everything looks great, including the carpet.

things keep happening

I have known I needed to do plug's,Wires, coils and injectors on this truck for a long time now... codes were popping up but not very often so I let it go.

I started getting lean codes/miss fires, I was like who is the Ms. Fires?

did not take any pictures but I picked up new wires/coils/plugs because people have seen that jazz.

3 @ 9091902212 COIL ASSY, IGNITION
1 @ 1903762050 CORD SET SPARK PLUG
2 @ 1717662040 GASKET, AIR SURGE TANK TO INTAKE MANIFOLD
6 @ 9091901192 PLUG, SPARK
3 @ 91511G0622 BOLT,FLANGE - these are the coil to valve cover bolts

I also grabbed

5VZ 3.4 LITER V6 EQUALIZED FUEL INJECTOR SET 1995-1998 from LCE

5VZ (V6) Equalized Fuel Injector Set (95-98)

after getting the plugs, coils, wires, injectors done this truck runs tighter than an otters a-hole.

I also finally got around to working on the rear links @DaMonkey dreamed up.

1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

decided I would try this stuff out for smaller projects
1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

all hanging around ready for blasting
1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

ah there is nothing like the smell of napalm in the morning and fresh sandblasted links.
1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

and everybody all dressed up and ready to rock, well almost everybody.
1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

of course on #4 I ran into trouble and for some reason the insert just decided to go sideways on me and I rekt it. ordered a replacement from ballistic so I will have to wait on that until I have 2 complete sets of upper links.

1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

I can start working on the lower links this weekend so I should have 2x sets of rear Ballistic joint based links.

Rad, yeah Ms. Fire can be a real witch sometimes lol. Those rear links look pretty fabulous! Looks like we both have tons of weekend work lol.

Rear gas tank skid plate and rear ss brake line and bleding the brakes again, and finding which rear hatch wires need repairs.

Did your weekend work go smoothly?

Smooth is not the word I was use. You know when you have those times when it’s one step forward and 3 steps backwards? Yea well that was like my entire weekend.

But back on track tomorrow I think. Rear links should be ready to role by this coming weekend.

Also thinking about making one of those drive up ramps so I can test suspension mods. Otherwise it’s not science.

Oh yes I have had plenty of those days, and they suck bad. But glade to hear you should be back on track. RTI ramp (I think that is what it is called) for flexing out? That would be a fun little project.

How were building those links?

As a general rule of thumb the more things you can stack up the better. I still had extra room so I could have maybe used a couple more layers of things.

RTI testing has started

I got some time to grind/cut/blast an old ATV trailer loading ramp enough to get a basic RTI ramp. it's only 32" at the high end but that should be enough for now. I need to add some bracing and ground connections so it does not dig into the driveway.

I wanted a way to measure suspension changes.

I also wanted to get some stock vs my mods down to see how much you gain for doing certain things. hopefully I can get enought time to test out swaybar on//off and wheel spacers. I have always been curious to know just how much of a difference things can make.

98 frame gets frame horns for 99+

The frame I used for the swap was off an 98, so that means it has the old frame horns. My 4X innovations bumper like the 99+ front.

got the toyota parts, way easier than me making some. yea they are only 1/8" and I probably should have made some 3/16" thick ones. maybe next time.

1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

bumper needs to come off, shop crane has so much love to give.
1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

clean off that paint so we get some nice clean welds
1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

also need to clean this part off. Notice the hook? it was blasted and painted with rustoleum, everything else was epoxy. rustoleum in the salt belt sucks.
1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

smoked them into place; also note the OEM toyota welds on these plates are really only top/bottom.
1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

I should have probably tried to do this before I started cutting the frame up?
It does fit like a glove, and by like I glove I mean .005mm of clearance on the clutch handle. I could have clocked it but this fine.
1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

and mounted back up. Now I need to take care of the wires and control box. not 100% sure exactly what I'm going to do about it. I would like to hide it inside so it out of the elements but... not sure yet. installment 2.

1997 Sketchy SleepyDad build

note: this really really makes the bumper solid. I'm not planning on pulling out tree stumps with this... hmmm wait that might work? NO NO dam it. anyways... back to work people!
