Rear Hatch Latch

I noticed my dome light wasn't working in the cargo area. I took it apart and found it to be broken where the bulb is held in by tension. I bought a used rear cargo light assembly and replaced it. I turned it to door and it still didn't operate only worked in the on position. I took the plastic cover off the back hatch to chase wires. I found a clip disconnected. I thought that was weird but whatever. I put it back together. Now my light stays on unless I turn it to the off position. Also the door ajar dash light is on 24/7 now. I pushed on the back door when it was closed and it went off. I have tried every avenue to adjust the latch to get it to operate properly. I opened the hatch and used a screwdriver to act as the pin for closing the latch. I can push it 1/4" further with the screwdriver and it turns the light off. There is no resistance when I use the screwdriver. What am I missing here?

The striker might could use some adjusting.

I have similar problem, if I dont slam it the light stays on but the hatch is fully closed, PO took some rear damage to the hatch but everything seems to be mechanically okay, hook on bumper seems okay, havent check out the door latch yet.

I have tried to figure out what to adjust. Nothing seems to have any adjustment to it. I removed the striker and the latch both in direct holes no slide to them. Is there something I am missing?

Same problem

I pulled apart and clipped the red wire. It won’t display the door open icon anymore but I couldn’t fix and had enough.

@Tomffmedic , FSM says to loosen two phillips screws on striker (attached to body) and move it left right forward rearward. I had the light not working one time in door mode, I lubed latch which also lubed the switch that controls light. Your switch may need some attention.

If you cut red wire does the dome light still work when you open the door?

Full disclosure. I had to replace the rear hatch from a sonar vehicle due to impact damage. I messed with the striker adjusting for over an hour and wd40’d the hatch catch mechanism and when for the “done with this fix”. I will probably pull apart and solder the wire and wix right in the spring.
