Just got over 25 MPG!!!
I just made a round trip to Denver today from Colorado Springs and did alot of driving around in Denver and was real surprised to notice on the way back that I was 200 miles at a half tank! So when I got back to Colorado Springs I went and filled up at the same gas station and at the exact same pump to try to limit variables and got 25.19 mpg. I was real surprised cause I was late going up to Denver so I was pushing a lil over 80 on the way up and around 70 on the way home, plus I did a fair amount of city driving in Denver. I just moved to Colorado, wonder if the thinner air helps the aerodynamics or something???
Anyway I have a 96 4R V6 5spd 4x4 with 143k miles. Just wanted to share my excitement.

I get the exact same mileage with my 2000 SR5 with 91,000 miles. One mile pergallon less than I got with my 2wd, 4cyl. Ford Ranger with 44,000 miles.

Thinner air isn't helping MPGs and it actually kills a little horsepower due to the lack of oxygen. I think it has more to due with engine speed and you were disciplined on the throttle.
What is your average full tank miles? I get a little over 250 around town with some hwy and I'm a bit of a leadfoot and love to accelerate and I have D load rated +1 size over stock tires.

:awais: That mileage is amazing with a 3.4L, Even most 2.7 don't see that king of mileage. I'm baffled.

I usually get high 200s per tank. This time I filled up at just under half a tank and I'd gone 230 miles!
Don't really know what was different this time, but I hope it keeps up....

I average about 260/tank around town after gas light comes on. I'm curious as to how far we can drive after the light first kicks on. I don't wanna find out. Anyone press their luck to far?

Don't rely on the ligth and you just got to learn your truck and see how much fuel you put in at fillups with your miles. Mine comes on by 225 miles and I go for another 25 or more and only squeeze in 15.5.

wow! Everyone seems to be getting at least 230+/tank. I guess I'm the village idiot, the outcast. I get ABOUT 220/tank with city and hwy (alot of backroad driving). light goes on about 215. Most I've ever "squeezed" in was 14.955. Guess I'm a sissy. Wonder why....
sorry for the life story....but there's my $0.02...

Ever see that episode of Seinfeld where Kramer takes a car for a test drive and wants to see how far past "E" you can drive?

I did 292 miles from 14.1 gallons on the weekend, 100% highway with cruise set at 70.
I have done 50 miles with the fuel light on once and put a little over 15 gallons in at the pump, but i was sh#@*ing myself after about 30 miles! Depending on what the unused fuel volume is, I think I might get 60-70 miles with the light on.

I get some 280-300 miles per tank. 25mpg does sound extreme to me, but that's just jealousy talking cause I get some 16-18mpg around town.
I also got 18.8 miles on the Empty Light once before I decided to pull into a station. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone though, I hear that fuel injectors really don't like when a car runs out of fuel.
On a personal note, it's a stupid feeling passing by a gas station once you're running on fumes. I did it because of sheer laziness before my brain kicked in and took over. But I could physically see my hands beginning to shake a little, getting a little hot... I'm not doing that again any time soon that's for sure.
