SOLVED - How to disable RS3000 VIP alarm but retain remote lock/unlock?

Solution found, see next post.

As the title says, I'd like to disable the alarm function of the dealer installed RS3000 VIP on my '97 Limited.

The alarm has gone off randomly several times - twice when I was using the remote to unlock the truck, at which point I replaced the remote battery, as was suggested in some threads.

It then went off again, at which point I did what another thread recommended, and disconnected both connectors at the Toyota Security "switch". I was "rewarded" by the alarm going off in the middle of the night when no one was anywhere near the truck (neighbors just love that!).

I read about putting it into valet mode, but at this point I just want to put a stake through the heart of this thing.

Is there a wire(s) that I can clip to at least disable the horn (I don't care if it locks me out for 1 minute, I just don't want the horn to be going off)? According to this description, there's a G-R wire going to horn - would cutting/disconnecting it take of the horn once and for all, without any bad consequences?

So the solution proposed above worked perfectly - undo the RS3000 G-R wire under the steering column that is tapped into the factory G-R horn switch wire. No more horn sounding if/when the alarm goes off!

Here is where the G-R wire taps into the horn switch G-R wire:

Here are the wires with the tap removed:

And the stripped portions covered with electrical tape:

Of course I just had to try it out, so I locked myself in the truck, then opened the door manually. Sure enough, the alarm went off, lights flashing, and the little piezo chirping quietly, but no horn! Perfect!

Does anyone know if this will work for RS3200?

I'm not familiar with the RS3200, but I'm guessing it has the same approach - the alarm ECU provides a ground path to the horn via the G-R wire when it wants the horn to sound. So if you undo that wire, the horn can no longer be activated by the alarm! Brute force, but easy peasy.
