opening rear hatch?

Ok this is a stupid question...Anyone with a 98, does the cargo light and inside light come on when you open the rear hatch? I can not recall if mine used to or not. It does not now, only when I open doors. I had all the cargo area panels off a few weeks ago and not sure if I bumped a plug loose or something.

If the light does come on, where is the switch that senses the cargo door open? I have looked and only guess is part of the latching system itself.

I hope I am just being paraniod and the lights actually never did come on.

Yeah on my 2000 the cargo area light definitely goes on when you open the hatch door. Over the weekend I forgot to shut the hatch after unloading some stuff and the light was on all afternoon Not sure where the sensor is sorry.

Edit, wait a second, so you're asking if the regular interior light goes on if all you do is open the hatch (and not the doors)? No I don't think that light is supposed to go on if all you do is open the rear hatch.

So if you have your doors closed and the interior light set to "door" and the cargo light set to "door" and open your rear hatch the light(s) do come on?

No I'm 90% sure only the cargo light would come on, the regular interior light would not. If I didn't drive my Mustang today I'd run out and check but I'll have to wait til tonight to confirm. However hopefully someone else will chime in with a definitive answer soon
