For some reason I wasn't getting notification on this thread. Sorry guys!

Snorkels aren't just for water crossings. Higher intake and out of the wheel wells = less dust ingestion. Last time I was in Moab, I was the only one without a snorkel and had to swap to a new filter since the other one was covered in dust after two days on the Kokopelli. To this day, I'm still cleaning out dirt/dust from every crevice of the truck. The joints in this snorkel are 100% sealed, its the stock joints that are a problem.

Aren't we all poser a little?

If you've read my build thread you'd know a few more holes don't matter to me.

I went ahead and bought it since it seems like every time they get more in stock, they bump up the price. Thanks for posting the install.
@ Atomic6
Do you think removing the fender is required? Some on TW mention that the upper mount of the snorkel is basically impossible to get to if you don't. Albeit, only 2 may all be that's needed to secure it to the fender. Also, was the antenna in the way? I have a power antenna so I'm thinking the motor will be in the way, which may require removal of the fender anyways. TW guys also state removing the fender flare to access the inner fender splash guards. I haven't looked under my fender specifically for this reason, but is this required for us?
|
Seriously
@ JWaldz
, with how popular the other snorkel is, I can't believe more people aren't jumping on this one. Maybe the majority of pro-snorkel guys already installed the 167 one?
I don't think you'd have to remove the fender. It definitely made it much easier though. You'd probably be able to hammer the lip of metal away, but the power antenna motor might be in your way of doing this already. There is clearance for the antenna on the outside of the snorkel. Yeah, like the TW guys said, the top bolt is impossible to install without removing the fender. You won't need to take your flare off to install.

You'd probably be able to do the complete install with the fender on. You won't be able to tighten the top bolt, but most Tacoma guys are running without the bolt without problems. I mainly took off the fender since I haven't seen this one on another 4Runner. It was easier to make sure everything was lined up and I didn't have anything else in the way.

I have the same color runner so it's nice to see what it would look like...I dig the straight up the side and not from the front, the YO sticker hits the spot, I put them on my order list and hopefully the price goes back to that price you ..the got!! That roll bar too, sweet.

Bought this 99 in 01 and haven't let it go since! Valve dropped at 195k so I rebuilt it with reman heads, new rings and one new piston...tough to find the correct numbered one but I did...still had the original hatch...I soaped it and did a light hatch to help the new rings seat...that was in 2015...since then I did a basic lift and put some VTX 18x9 inch wheels with 0 offset...Ive grounded the rear locker, ran a diff extension into the gas cap, did the hood piston mod...GM Alternator...13WL brakes..30 year ASE Master Tech with more tools than sense, so I quit everything and work at home now.

Thanks! Finishing the roll bar is next on the mod list. The YO is from an old Toyota Pickup I found in the junkyard. It's just a place holder to check sizing. I'm chatting with
@ hoksibish
about 3D printing something different.

That periscope at the top can't be good for mpg (not a criticism of this one since they are all like that). I'd probably mod it to something more flush up there, and facing backwards. I've heard the argument that facing forward helps with ramming the air into it at higher pressure but I'm somewhat skeptical.
Maybe use this with the deck plate mod and keep both open until you really need the snorkel then just close the deck plate.

I've been watching this since it originally went up here, the price seems to keep going up with every shipment they sell out of. Last thing I knew, they were sold out for $130 up from $120 the week before; as of now they have 2 left at $150. Soon they'll be ARB prices.

Yeah, they wont take an offer either. I tried offering them 129.00 and they refused. Once we stop buying them, the prices will probably drop again.

I know this will sound a little crazy but...
once this is bolted on? does this mean no more gas station car wash machine spinning wheel flappy wash jobs?
I would guess it would get messed up or break the wash machine. don't want to get water down the pipe.

Most car washes typically have a warning about if you have any external 'non factory' parts on your vehicle they can be damaged or even damage the car wash equipment. This goes for brushless and brushed washes. I haven't used a drive through car wash in years for this reason. I have way too many things "hanging" off my truck.
Even if you a completely stock vehicle and just this snorkel, I wouldn't suggest using the drive through.

You can always look for a touchless wash. Luckily there is one near my work that's only $6 and has no brushes bristles, it has a spray bar that works its way around the parked car. Admittedly it probably doesn't get off as much dirt as the brushes would if your car was significantly dirty but it does a good job for maintenance washes in between hand washes.

I'd be interested in seeing what you guys come up with for the spot. I was thinking of some kind of oval shaped TRD logo that you can just 3M on. If you google "Oval TRD emblem" you can kind of get an idea.
Out of curiosity, what's the width and length of the oval shape on the snorkel?

I just grabbed one of these. With it constantly going up in price seemed like a good idea just to grab it for when I eventually have need for it.

That's exactly the plan: an oval TRD, TEQ, or TOYOTA logo. The TRD seems like the best shape since the "R" fills out the oval nicely. The oval shape is ~2-5/8" x 1-3/8"

Thanks! This is the best thing I can find for it online. I also like that it's resin. It's just a tad shy of the opening but would fit it pretty nicely. However, it's unavailable and I can't find it anywhere else online.
