Well might as well throw mine into the mix. I used the template exactly as instructed for the tacoma. Fit perfectly, no need to enlarge holes including the snorkel hole. One thin I did have to do was lose the rivets. I got 2 done and they were loose as all can be. So drilled them out, and used some self tapping screws with a ship ton of silicone to seal it. Didn't realize I needed the tacoma air box thingy, yeah no way I'm paying 100 bucks for it. Did some measuring, snorkel opening is 3", air box side inlet it 3.25" (tight fit). Ordered what they call a cobra head elbow and a 90* transition. With some 3" steel pipe we have at work. Works perfectly. Also FYI the top of the snorkel is 3.5" roughly if you want to use a prefilter on it.
Also through that tiny hole you can see the hoseclamp, it's like toyota designed it perfectly to use a 1/4" extension to reach the clamp to tighten it, well that is what I'll believe lol.
Would like to find a emblem to put in the empty oval......
This forum hates pics I guess lol.

Got mine on, left the fender on, but pulled the liner obviously. I put my holes exactly where indicated by the template, but slightly oversized, the fitment is great, tight all around. Top bolt went ok, I used a ratcheting wrench, but I'm sure a regular wrench, or shallow socket on a 1/4" drive handle would be fine. My power antenna has never worked, and was in the way. I dropped it down 6" or so just to have an antenna until I do a taco whip.
The biggest issue was my rivit gun won't fit to to the top mount. I already drilled the holes before I realised it wouldn't fit. I am going to try to find the world's narrowest rivit gun, or put in rivnuts.
Those who got the rivits in; what rivit gun do you have, and where did you get it?

I'm about to pull the trigger on this snorkel. I read mix information about the tube. Would I need the Tacoma tube that goes in the fender to connect or the snorkel kit tube works fine with the 3rd Gen 4runner tube? Want to make sure before I buy it.

My inside the fender tube from the airbox on my 2000 was not long enough to connect to the tube provided with the snorkel kit. Rumour is that I need the inside the fender tube from a taco to connect them. Haven't sourced one yet to try it out though.

Here’s the gap I’m talking about..

think that could be from moving it back from where the original template went?
as for everyone having issues with getting the rivets in, your gun won't get on there perfect but should pull tight as you go. my rivet gun is nothing special just a cheapo and was at an angle the whole time but all 3 rivets pulled tight and clean

Not really sure, I think it was mostly cause the antenna motor was pushing it out sort of.. Hard to explain but it’s all a really tight fit in there. Where I moved the template wasn’t right and where the template was supposed to be wasn’t right either.. If I put it where it was supposed to go the snorkel would’ve been on top of the fender flare.

I took the longer tube of my '97 parts 4Runner just in case I ever did this swap. I'm pretty sure it is different than the one on my '99.

Does anyone have a link to where I can buy the taco intake tube? I have the one shown in the picture below and I was about to mod it and add some pvc to make it all fit but I sure would love to get rid of it since the hole is so small compared to the rest of the setup. I've asked some autopart stores but they weren't able to help me. Also does it replace just the end part or the whole air intake up to the filter box?

your best bet is to look for a 96-98 runner in the scrap yards

I picked this up in December for only $98. I believe they’re increasing the price a bit more now, but the quality and fitment are what I’d expect from the $400 original. IMO it looks so much better than the Hilux 167 snorkel most people are running too.
Here’s the eBay link, but it’s on Amazon too.
Install went fairly well. It’s pretty self-explanatory and the template is usable. I had an extra fender that I tested the snorkel on and it worked, but I couldn’t determine a-pillar fitment without mounting it to the truck (which I didn’t do).
The a-pillar mount is aluminum or stainless so you don’t have to paint it if you don’t want.
The plastic is high quality and the thickness is really consistent. From the other thread on TW, it seems like others are finding the same:
I used the template to determine the location of the 3.5” hole, but didn’t drill the mounting holes yet:
The snorkel contacts a metal lip inside the fender. I forgot to take a picture before persuading the metal out of the way, but it’s right below the square cutout. I just used a mallet and it worked perfectly:
I’m happy I didn’t drill the mounting holes from the template because when I lined it up with the a-pillar, it wasn’t perfect. By using a carbide bit on a Dremel, I elongated the hole lower and further back. This aligned the body line and pillar mount better:
Here’s a shot of the elongated hole. As you can see, it’s mounted further back than the template shows:
From there, I loosely mounted the stock intake tube to the included coupling. I found it easier to unbolt the intake tube from the truck and mount the assembly (snorkel, fender, intake tube) to the truck. I bolted the snorkel down at this point:
Then it was as easy as remounting the fender, aligning the intake tube to the elbow, and drilling/riveting the mount to the a-pillar:
I’ll take some better photos later, but here’s some of the finished product:
I didn't put the dumb sticker on. I'm planning to 3D printing something cooler later:

great write up and photos.. I'll be doing this on my daughters 02 very soon...
