Review: True North Fabrications Hybrid Bumper

Here's the link to his main page. True North Fabrications LLC - Custom Parts For Off-Road Vehicles

He has a couple of other bumpers for sale however I think this one takes the cake. I'll be filling in with pictures as I go from my phone and tapatalk.

Build: Very sturdy. The welds are good, the thickness of the metal is robust, but the weight is not huge. I think I would be correct in stating the 100lbs area.

Fit: This has got to be one of the tightest fitting bumpers. I have around 1/4" inch between the fenders and the bumper which I think is about perfect.

Looks: To each their own but this might be the most "stock" looking aftermarket out there before hoops are added on. The hoops ship with the bumper but not welded so there's a customization factor there that I like personally. He does have templates available but I did not use them. I wanted mine angled forward for wrapping deer necks around them.

Function: Well mine is to stomp deer but I would not be afraid on the trails with this either. It attaches where the tow hook bolts go and on the sides with generous holes to allow for some of the "flex" these old frames have. In other words I don't see this going anywhere without some serious force behind it.

Ease of Installation: Well it's about as easy as any other plated bumper installation is. Best to have a buddy but all in all I'd say it was easy.

Cost: Great price point. Free shipping on the bumper (one of the reasons the hoops are not welded on).

Final Impressions: Money well spent. I went the rattle can/roll on paint route but I know that it would also look fantastic powder coated as well.

The clearance for tires is good. It tucks pretty well in its design. You can also mount a winch in there. It does not have an open top so you'll have to do the install before tossing it on there. Maybe an extra friend will be required with a winch to heave it into place

Tools Needed: A grinder or sawsall, some wrenches, and a strong friend. You'll need a welder if you want the hoops or know a shop that can weld everything up for you.

Pics coming very soon, but no trail pics yet. I haven't had time to go wheeling with it yet.

Not bad. I personally think it looks better without the hoops. And my other concern is when you go to install a winch you need to remove the bumper.

I honestly think it does as well but I think the hoops are a nice touch. If I didn't live in the stupid animal crossing belt then I would have been very happy with just the grill hoop.
