I personally don't have a need or want for a full length rack because of the lack of inner support, Kudo's to those that do.
For the ease and versatillity of hitch basket to move 4 tires is a no brainer.
@3bears was wondering if you had made the move other day when this thread resurfaced,
ha what ya gona do?

I just use the full length rack for large but light items. i.e. my bike laid down and a few other things.

My oldest son, whom also owns property in Alaska ( Seward, but does not live there yet) is planning to come up late this summer and with his set up, he is bringing my tires and all my tool boxes ( car tool boxes). All my construction tools I will haul up on this trip, not on my roof. I am gonna do a full rack, but it will not be heavy stuff, clothes and lighter crap.
