Hi guys,
I know that this topic spans far and wide, and I've done quite a bit of research on this over the past couple of days. Can't seem to find a definitive answer.
Problem
The transfer case housing on my 4Runner is cracked near the front output shaft, leaking gear oil all over the place. I'd like to replace it with a different t-case.
Potential Fix
I found a low-mileage transfer case locally that is a decent deal, however it was pulled from a Tacoma.
My 4Runner: '97 SR5, 4x4 Automatic, with J-shifter transfer case (no push-button 4WD)
Donor Tacoma: 2001, Double-Cab 4x4 Automatic, with J-shifter transfer case (no push-button 4WD)
Here are the different part numbers for the two trucks:
4Runner:
36110-35321
4-RUNNER; 6 CYLINDER; W/ SR5 MODEL; FROM 3/ 96
36110-35341
4-RUNNER; 6 CYLINDER
36110-35331
4-RUNNER; 6 CYLINDER; W/ O SR5 MODEL
Tacoma:
36110-35321
TACOMA; 6 CYLINDER; W/ SR5 MODEL; W/ O 2/ 4 SELECTOR
36110-35341
TACOMA; 6 CYLINDER; W/ O 2/ 4 SELECTOR; W/ O SR5 MODEL; W/ AUTO DISC-DIFF; W/ DIFFERENTIAL LOCK
36110-35441
TACOMA; 6 CYLINDER; W/ 2/ 4 SELECTOR
36110-35332
TACOMA; 6 CYLINDER; W/ SR5 MODEL; W/ 2/ 4 SELECTOR
Does anyone has a definitive answer here - are the t-cases the same in the housings and number of splines and gearing?
Thanks for the help!
