Worth selling? '97 SR5 with locking rear diff and salvage title
I have a 4Runner that I am trying to decide if it's worth selling or just donating, hard to gauge the market. I have replaced it with a '14 SR5 as my daily driver and no longer have space to store it.
The good:
-It is a 97' SR5 5-speed with the factory locking rear diff with only 147k miles. FJ80 wheels, otherwise stock.
The bad:
- Salvage title. 10 years ago during a snow storm slid into a guard rail and it was called a total due to a small bend in the frame. A buddy of mine that worked at a body shop straightened it and replaced the bumper/quarter panel and I have been driving it for past 10 years without issue.
- Also in past year it has developed an engine noise/shake when getting above 2k RPMs.
Any advice on selling and a price or donate to local charity for tax write off.

You can donate it to me! haha
with the low miles 5 speed transmission and the locking diff make it worth money. even if it wasn't running.

At the very least, you can part out and easily achieve $1500, maybe more givin the 5 speed and locker. I'd try and put it on craiglist for $3000, go full disclosure, and I'd bet youd still get $2250-$2500. Don't donate it, unless its just easier for you and you absolutely don't need anymore cash.

It's worth selling, but with a salvage title you won't get a ton of interest. Also, most "u-sell-it" or consignment lots won't accept salvage titles for that reason.
As long as there's no issues or cosmetic damage to the interior, I agree with the $2000-$2500 estimate. But it will take a while to find a buyer at that amount, a ton of people will low ball you due to the title issues even if you explain what happened.

I'm thinking someone from AL on this site or others like it will want it.
Salvage titles don't scare me, many are simply cosmetic yet due to age they total super easy.
If it was near me, I'd go look/drive it at least if offered for $2-3K.

It's 22 years old. They hit the rock bottom in value. Salvage title doesn't really matter too much now if it was fixed properly. There are some clean title 4Runners that look worse than some "salvage" 4Runners that got "totaled" in 2013 because someone backed into it in a mcdonalds drive through.

A buddy donated his car and only got tax credit for what they sold it at the auction for......$250. That was here in California, but check before donate.

I’d have to disagree. Salvage title is a salavage title. Automatically drops the value of a vehicle. It just does.
