MODS: Keyless tailgate power window switch...
There are a few mods I did that make a lot of difference when camping and you have to move around the 4Runner.
Like the tailgate dome lights that I installed awhile back, I also installed a secondary switch to lower the rear window without the need for a key.
The only hard part was to run 2 wires up the tailgate, thru the rubber boot, and to the left c pillar.
Then connecting is simple - using continuity on the multimeter, find the two control circuits that have a common pin when you press the switch both directions, and connect the two wires to them, and then the third wire to the common pin of the switch, which you then connect to some bolt inside the pillar. That's your ground connection to complete the circuit.
Here is the schematic of the back door ECU and which wires to splice.
Basically, using the secondary switch, you imitate the same key lock switch on the diagram.
If you sleep in the car, it is very convenient to reach and lower the window. When the seats are up, the switch is hidden by the rear seat's back and the rear window can't be accidentally lowered...say from moving luggage.
This is the end result:
