If you do find a parts 4Runner for under 1k of the same year as your 4Runner... and you have the space... it's worth your time. Except for suspension. I loved being able to raid mine for parts and all those little things that bring it back to life. Then just sell what you don't use.
If you think about it, the seller has a good point. If you’re planning to live in the car in the Bay Area, it’s a steal, compared to the home prices there.

I did this exact thing when I had my ‘85 MR2. I bought two parts cars and loved it. Stripped them both down to the body. Had a garage though. Now I don’t

Very true. Much cheaper to live in a $100K 4Runner than buying a house
