Thunder Cloud Metallic Fenders / Hood

A couple years ago my 4runner got the not-so-once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sit through a hail storm while I was out of town.

I thought I'd be able to source a set of fenders from the junkyard or various online sites, and if I got really lucky I'd be able to find a sport hood. My plan was to find the fenders and hood in the 1D2 paint code (Thunder Cloud Metallic) and I have searched for 2 years with no luck locally or with anyone willing to ship from out of state.

Although I hate to ask for help, my experience has led me to this point, and I'm now asking for help sourcing these body panels.

The insurance company ended up totaling the vehicle and I bought it back from them but never fixed the damage, because it really wasn't so bad. The damage was mainly to the hood, fenders, and a couple dings on the doors, but not bad. I had a roof rack on so it saved the roof.

The fenders are easy to find with the large flares, however, the non flared fenders are like finding a needle in a haystack. When I do find one or two, they are always on car-part.com and never once has the yard been willing to ship them to me.

Although I hate to ask for help, my experience has led me to this point, and I'm now asking for help sourcing these body panels. If anyone finds a decent set of non-flared fenders or a sport hood locally and are willing to ship them out to me, please get in touch with me. Even if it's just one fender, I would be grateful.

I believe the TCM color was only offered in 01-02.

And a picture, because it makes everyone more interested.

I have a hood from my 2002 limited TCM but I’m all the way in CALI!!!!

Agree, maybe the OP can post some pics. Look at these before and after:

Here's my dilemma.

When I was building my front bumper and it was 90% completed, I had to winch in heavy snow. A portion of my reinforcements were not yet complete. The force from the winch actually pulled my bumper forward and gave my fenders a facial.

I ended up getting certifit fenders (really crappy), and had a friend of mine paint them at his shop. The paint ended up coming out close, but definitely lighter than the rest of the panels, so I was pretty disappointed.

Here's a picture where you can tell the color difference. It almost looks more purplely too. Most light you really can't tell, but I notice it every time I look at it.

About a month later is when the hail happened. So now I have fenders that don't totally match, and a hood peppered with small dents.

I want matching OEM fenders and if I'm going to do any work to the hood I may as well just source a sport hood.

So yeah, PDR is out of the question for me on this repair.

I’ve been browsing car-part.com for some white fenders and have seen a couple thunder clouds on there. May be worth a look

Oh I've found them on there too. That's the only place I've found them, but none of them are willing to ship or are hard to deal with remotely. I'm hoping somebody is close enough to one of the yards that I can get some shipped out at some point.

Super long shot, but is anyone in the South Amboy, NJ area? I found a 4runner with fenders and hood in the right color.

Of course they won't ship them, so I'd be willing to compensate somebody local that has time to pick them up and ship them by freight.

Spork,

I have exactly what you're looking for: '02 Sport in Thundercloud. I'm about to sell it -- and would consider parting it out. However, I'm in Maine... so shipping would likely be expensive.

Here's the deal.
THE GOOD: The body is in great shape -- fenders, doors, hood, rear hatch have no rust, and the paint is excellent. The interior is in great shape. No stains, no smells. Sport cloth interior. No rips, no sagging driver's seat. Too many great parts to list. I took good care of this truck, and so did the previous owner, but the rust has taken its toll.

THE BAD: The rockers are shot and the frame was professionally patched a few years ago in one spot (same place they all rust: right side @ the rear control arm). Frame rust was very minor -- I was looking for it, and addressed it before it got bad.

Mechanically, the truck is 100%. I would have no hesitation driving this truck across the country tomorrow -- like from Maine to Colorado. (I'm not going to do it. But that's because I don't have the time or inclination.)

It's got 165K miles on it and the engine doesn't burn a drop of oil -- I mean NONE. The previous owner bought it off lease, and had an extended Toyota warantee that he took full advantage of: had rear axle seals & bearings replaced, and had the master cylinder/ABS unit replaced (if you have an '01, then you know that unit is HUGE money.)

As I said, I've been considering parting it out, which would be more money, but more work. If you're serious, lets talk. PM me.

Big thanks to @tvpierce for reaching out to me. I ended up buying his 4Runner and shipping it out to Colorado. Just another reason that this community is so great.

All of my issues have been remedied far past the point that I could have ever imagined, so I'm super excited about that.

I still need to add the rear flares to the rig, but all the major work has been done! Lots of build thread related posts will be coming in the next few weeks.
