I went back to the old nuts. My 96 they all broke the studs or ripped the threads off. My 97 they came off like a normal nut so I reused them.

If your referring to the CAT. My CAT was factory on the 96 and the 97. Both Federal. I have the 96 as a spare.

The 96 got totaled and removing the engine and trans I broke or stripped every stud on the exhaust. I put the engine in the 97 I bought with a dead engine and on the 97 all the exhaust nuts came off normally.

I installed a CAT from Eastern Catalyitics on my LC and the check engine code came to P0430 went away on its own. The built quality is identical to the OEM cat came off the truck. The flanges and tubing are thick as the OEM and came with the necessary gaskets too. They offer 50K or 5 year warranty on the CAT.

Install new OEM flange bolts and nuts.

Part Number: 9008010064
BOLT, FLANGE

Part Number: 9008017187
NUT

Different types of bolts/nuts have their own torque rating. I just tightened up the brass nuts by feel with backed off a bit from where I would go on a steel nut. I just checked to see if there is a torque rating on the package, there isn't. I wouldn't worry about a torque rating for a cat, other than getting it snug.

I was worried about not crushing the exhaust donuts enough.

Is there any aftermarket CATs that last more than 2-3 years?
I want something Stainless Steel since I'm running GIBSON Catback Exhaust System

I mean at this point, I feel like OEM Cats will be more worth it since they last so long...

Also, do people replace just the rear cats or the front ones too?
I have a 2001 which I believe has 2 cats.

Question on this subject, I replaced my original Cats about 100K miles ago (around 2013), I used walker Direct Fit, had no issues and no codes, but lately The CAT System on OBDII Reader has not given me the OK signal after driving over 500 Miles and I feel the Truck does not have much power on Acceleration, Do you think it is time to replace Both Cats?

I really can't complain 100K miles on After Market is not so bad! (it is like over 8 years so far)

Funny how this appeared because my aftermarket cat is just getting worse and worse (rattling/grind noise). I will consider and research Walker.
