Skid Control Light Blinking, ABS fully engaged at slow speed.

While it seems like a new problem every week I thought I had this one nailed. A few months back the ABS when fully active and reduced my ability to safely brake. Back out of my driveway, pulled up to the stop sign and oh sh”t, rolled a little over the line. I depressed the VSC/ABS disable switch I installed a million years ago and on I went. Recently I purchased 4 new ABS wheel speed sensors and installed them the other night. Reset the ECU yesterday in the parking lot by leaving the battery (-) off for 5 minutes. Jumped in, enabled VSC/ABS button, backed out pulled up, and the skid light is blinking, and the ABS is fully engaged. Depressed the VSC/ABS button again and went on my merry way. When I got home I performed a zero point calibration but it didn’t help. Yes the abs speed sensors are seated, yes I checked, yes the clicked and are attached properly.

I just don’t know or haven’t found the answer as of yet.

With how your describing problem I'd bet the module has chit the bed.
Check Engine on?
Bought 01 2-17 with bad module all the lights and codes used replacement fix.
Since, I've been researching the module out of curiosity and what to expect on line and Toyota Shop Techs.
The module has different modes of failure, failsafe mode which I had, failure mode which is pretty much what
Techs described as what you have. Flashing skid involves Yaw and pitch sensors they do zero point cal, not fixed swap module.
They don't spend alot of time troubleshooting Trac system straight to module more times than not.
We did the talking over beers and Que think they shooting straight, take it for what it's worth.
Toyota screwed the pooch for us that have 01, 02's.

OK, that means ABS side of module is good.
This is DI364 of FSM, since your slip is flashing = good bulb.
ECU replacement next, my thinking is flashing slip works as DTC indicator of problems in skid control part of module.
I don't have instant access to tech's, put the word out though.
Good Luck!!

Edit: Glad you posted your problem, I've only experienced certain problems I've wondered what other quirks
came with system.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1
Check that SLIP indicator light is ON for 3 sec. soon after ignition switch is
turned ON.
OK Check and replace skid control ECU.
NG Repair or replace combination meter check.
NG
2
Check SLIP indicator light.
OK
3
Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between skid control
ECU and SLIP indicator light (See page IN-28 ).
NG
Repair or replace harness or connector.
OK
Check and replace skid control ECU.

As of this morning when the system is as it should be and the VSC/ ABS button is not enraged I get a VSC light that stays on, the ABS system kicks in when I get to the stop sign. There is NO SKID LIGHT at this time.

@xcmountain80

FSM - DIAGNOSTICS-ABS WITH EBD & BA & TRAC & VSC SYSTEM DI221-DI374

Troubleshoot it, see where it goes.

This system is perfect example of don't buy first MY major changes, 03 has better setup from what I hear.

Maybe, but the fact the system is 17 years old and has 430,000 miles on it might have more to do with it. Maybe not but it could.

I will look into the FSM with your above sited section and see what I come up with.

Thank you

Mine failed 175k or so according to PO kept driving it, your case is different since it effects driving same module though. Techs say it's module most times why the change for 03. We got our money's worth with module no doubt.

If you do need to replace module sure would like your bad one !!!
Been troubleshooting to component level have mine figured out what's bad.
Would like one with different problem to diagnose.

I am battling this same issue.

I believe I have mine narrowed down to one of the front (ABS or speed) sensors as it seems to be a lot worse when in AWD. The Andy Mod 2.0 eliminates the issue when active (VSC/TRAC disabled) though.

For sure, I’ve been driving this way for a little while.
