5spd grenade...

The last couple months I would randomly hear a loud high speed ticking noise that lasted maybe a second. Almost like hitting the starter on a running motor. I got underneath and poked around a couple times, never saw anything and it drove normal so I just kept trucking. Whatever it is finally let go today. Popped back under and saw this. Dang. The cracks almost run the whole right side of the bell housing.

I guess this means I need a new trans since the bell housing looks built in. Maybe a r150 swap? Haven't looked into that yet. Any idea what is sticking out the side?

The picture looks like its sticking out the side of the bell housing and not the transmission, right? That looks like your clutch grenaded which would mean that you need a new clutch and bell housing.

Not if the damage is to the bell housing. The bell housing bolts up to the transmission from the inside of the bell housing.

Could only need a new bell housing. Was this an aftermarket or oem clutch that scattered?

I have never opened it up. With almost 300k I am guessing its not the oem. But it would be just a guess.

Ah. I would say it was a cheap clutch as to why it scattered. I really doubt an OEM clutch would last 300K miles. I haven't seen one on anything last more then 250K. Unfortunately, you are going to have to pull it out the transmission and access the damages and go from there. I am just hoping its just the bell housing and nothing more. :-)

Just doing a quick search theres lots of r150 housings and W58/56 etc but I can't seem to find any W59. I did see where folks have swapped the bellhousing off the 05+ 2trfe manual to get an r150 behind the 3rz. It's neat but doesn't help me much lol.

Maybe you can just have it tigged welded the case back together worst case..
I am sure you can find one somewhere it may take some looking and digging around for a while. :-)

Bell housing bolts to the gearbox section from the inside of the bell housing

I was thinking about this just a bit ago. Any idea what aluminum the bell is made from? I took a transfer case in a while back to have a spot welded up and the welder told me it was magnesium, not aluminum. For whatever reason he couldn't weld the magnesium.

Aisin stock will work fine. That’s what I did for my 3RZ last year.
