I don't remember what I was pressing out, but I had my 12t press fail on me. Scared the crap out of me, just a loud pop and all hell broke loose. The upper crossbar the 4 bolts holes had failed. But this was years ago.

20t is where it's at. Much better to use and use safely.

Thanks!

OK so I am gearing up to do this very same job except I also have to replace the drum brake backing plates which cost $112 ea. I have been putting in a ton of research on it and talked to a guy on the Reddit 3G4R sub-reddit about his project. He opted for the 12 ton press and he specifically answered me on it and he said it was more than he would ever use and it obviously worked beautiful for the rear seal/bearing job. Now instead of fabricating the special tool I highly recommend you buy the tool that Duane Bier makes and sells on eBay. I just received mine and it is a seriously nice tool meticulously manufactured. Insider tip I got from Timmy the Toolman's video contact Duane directly via email and you will receive a significant discount on the cost of the tool. I got mine in 3 days I believe. Here is the eBay listing Rear Axle Bearing Puller Toyota 4Runner FJ Lexus GX460/470 Tacoma | eBay and here is Duane's email address [email protected]. Super nice guy too!

I'll disagree, and endorse the previous sentiments. If you are in a position to choose, definitely go with the 20-T. !!

Yes, you can make the 12-T work. I did just that a few posts back. (I also admit that the side that pushed the strength limits of the 12-T was not normal.) But, the 12-T is simply not physically sized well for this work.

Again, other-things-equal... get the 20-T

My comments were in reply to the OP who said that the 20 ton in Canada was prohibitively expensive. So I just wanted him to know that yes the 12 ton has been used for this job and worked fine. YMMV!

If you're bending/breaking your press you're not using all the tools in toolbox.

If space is a concern in your work area, like it is in mine, then the 12-ton press works, with slight modification.

This so helpful, I wish I could show you guys how to remove that bearing without special tools in less than a minute.

I 2nd this. I purchased the tool and used a 12 ton press and it was perfect, no issues what so ever. Ive done bushings, front and rear wheel bearings and other mis stuff with the 12 ton and it has never strained.
