I have been browsing this forum for a little while now. I’m from Mobile, AL and growing up my parents owned a 1985 4runner, red with white top. I remember being a kid and how cool the clinometer was. You just didn’t see things like this in other vehicles.
After this my mother owned a 1990, I believe it was medium red, had the tire gate on the back, and then a 1997 desert dune which she drove for over a decade until she decided she needed something more luxurious. So in came the Lexus rx350.
So needless to say, I have loved the 4runner since birth. Last year I helped my sister find a 2016 trail edition, fitted with a Toytec lift, BF Goodrich All-Terrains, and trd wheels. We found exactly what she wanted in NY with 25k miles on it and shipped it down to Bama. It was literally perfect and looked as if it hadn’t even been driven.
So, last few years I have had a 2003 Camry, which now still has under 45k miles as a daily. And over the past few months, I’ve decided to look for a 3rd gen because it’s my favorite model.
I’ve recently come across a basically 1 owner, 2000 sr5 4wd in silver with 87k original miles. It is minty fresh. After purchase I plan on doing the thermostat/water pump as I’ve read this needs to be done around every 80-100k Miles.
So having said that, what would be a good price on this 4runner? I should be able to get it for right at $9.5k.
Until recently, I didn’t realize these were selling for thousands above “book value”. But I have no problem paying “market value”, as I own a 2004 s2000 with 53k on the clock, which is quite possibly the most appreciating car in the world at this time.
