Dorman 02349 starter repair kit

Can anyone confirm that this starter kit works with any 99 4runner starter, oem or aftermarket? According to the maintenance docs, the PO replaced the started with an aftermarket reman and it is showing symptoms of wearing out so I need to remedy this. l prefer to rebuild than replace if possible without knowing what brand starter is in there now.

This is the one I got that includes the plunger:

I also picked up one from Oreilly's that had just the copper contacts and not the plunger. That one included one of the copper bolts and the plastic insulators.

I used the Dorman one, it works fine. They actually give various assortment of contacts. I would use the ones with a larger than OEM contact area as they will last longer.

Dorman 02349 starter repair kit

I’ve rebuilt 3 with the Victory Lap number ND-36SOL. It’s for the starter in the automatic trans. The number posted above is for the manual trans I think.

This is correct. I believe it is the plunger that is slightly different. I used the 34SOL on my 5 speed with the smaller starter.
