Does anyone make a smog legal performance camshaft ? That would certainly add some ponies.
That depends on what year 4Runner you have. 2000 was the last year to use drive by cable. After that they switched to drive by wire (electronic).

I know this is an old thread, but I am working on a solution for more power, and mileage, that is easy to install and won't break the bank like a supercharger kit.

I have tested a prototype on a 3.8L car before and it was like adding a supercharger, boosted mileage 40-65%. I may post the prototype setup on here soon, but I am developing it into a way more fine tuned and controllable modification. The prototype could be set up and installed in an hour after you have all the parts on hand.

The 3.4L engine is starved for air, I bet there is some real potential with just a bigger intake/exhaust combo and a plug in fueling solution. I'm not in the market for something like this as I have the supercharger and already made my own tune but could be a good alternative for the $4,000 supercharger + $1000 injector kit, plus $400 for tuning and... and... $$$
