transfer case interchange?

Hi Guys, I tried a search and did not see what I was looking for, so I figured I just ask. I have a friend with a 1999 limited automatic transmission and the push button on the transfer case shifter and I have a 2000 SR5 automatic transmission and no button on the transfer case shifter, can we swap my transfer case and shifter (2000 SR5) into his 1999 Limited?

Will it bolt up directly?

Any small parts need changing?

Front and rear outputs to the drive shafts the same?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It will bolt up fine. Driveshafts F/R are different lengths.

The real challenge is fooling the electronics - the transfer case/4WD wiring is totally different between the Limiteds and the base/SR5's on the '96-'00 trucks (and between the '96-'98 and '99-'00 Limiteds).

I swapped a limited t-case for a standard J-shift case in my 00 Limited. Besides the driveshafts being different lengths, the truck needs to be changed to turn the front diff on and off. It's not hard to do, I used a 5 pole relay to control the front diff actuator. The wires are all part of the harness that goes to the transfer case computer for the limited case. I found schematics for each truck and did the switch.

To go the other way would be a pain, you would need the harness for the transfer case and computer, not sure if its part of the chassis harness or a separate harness. It could be done though if you REALLY wanted too.
