1999 4runner sr5 or 2007 tacoma trd sport

I'm looking at a 1999 4runner sr4 2wd with 162k mileage will take $5500 and 2007 tacoma trd sport with hood scoop 2wd has 145k is priced at 13k but will try to get it at 12k. which one would be worth getting?

The 4runner did look good minor scrapes but paint still looks good. Have to replace the center dash console since its cracked, timing belt and water pump changed at 135k. He also replaced the alternator and put in optima battery. It does look like it needs 2 front tires but I'm just going to pick up the 5th gen trail edition wheels and tires. I will also replace the shocks and struts and lower ball joints which needs to probably be change. Would it be best to change the radiator and spark plugs? How much do you think it will cost? will it be worth it at the end?

As for the 2007 tacoma I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow at a toyota dealer where they told me its been inspected,

2 different forms of utility. I'd ask which do you Need more of? (covered rear end or uncovered rear end).

Not sure how much you know about the 'ups/downs' of 3rd gen runners yet here's a very good read: 3rd Gen 4Runner Buyer's Guide - Toyota 4Runner Forum - Largest 4Runner Forum It will mention the strong need for a new radiator, a Denso is about $100 on ebay/amazon and the plugs (ngk 2 prong are about $60/set).

Unusual to have a cracked dash on runner, never seen one like that, must have sat in the sun alot?

Is the tacoma a prerunner, access cab, double cab? don't really know the models by the looks. I've driven that truck w/a 4 liter, far peppier than the 3.4, far peppier. It can actually pull away in 35-45 mph traffic, 3.4 is an unbelievable DOG in this situation (it must be wound up to 3500+ to get any real torque going, the 4.0 doesn't need to be pushed near as hard).

On the flipside, the tacoma's price is FULLY RETAIL, I personally don't pay Full Retail, I aim for Wholesale or Person to Person pricing, I'm too much of a sucker for a Good deal!

Still, it's up to you and what you want, need, feel like spending or getting into debt (hate that with passion). Luck either way,

Agree with the above. This is a pretty apples and oranges comparison. Can't comment on the pricing of the Tacoma but 4Runner seems ok... Interesting to me that you're looking at two widely varied price points.

If you have the budget for the Taco, if it we're me, I'd look at a late model 4th gen 4Runner ( they're priced similar to that Tacoma ). 3rd gen runner looks better to me, but 4th gen superior in every measurable way to me. But then again I'm have no need for a pickup so who knows ?

Personally. If I could I would of gotten a Tacoma. I like how you can add a bed roof rack. Then add a roof top tent almost level with the roof. And then add a roof rack on the roof for more stuff. I hate the looks of rooft too tent on 4runner. As it is already high.

I went from a 2008 Tacoma pre-runner (4 cylinder manual trans) that I bought brand new and drove for ten years to a 2000 4Runner with V6 and manual trans. I love the 4runner but the taco was newer and suspension and steering way tighter. I liked the gearing on the taco way more than the 4 runner for daily driving. Felt like I sat higher in the seat in the taco also

Doing a generalization thread would be tough if either vehicle would suit your daily driving needs. Otherwise you have to go case by case on what vehicle is in better condition. I would say make lists with associated costs on what each vehicle needs to get it where you want it and then decide
