I take it this isn't a quick spritz of WD-40 can fix like it did for the exterior locks? Asking because mine is sometimes stiff.

Once I had keys cut from VIN, Locksmith recommended 3 in 1 Dry Lock Lube which I used locks are smooth as butter.
Thanks!

Pull out the lock barrel with your old key while it still works and get a new key cut off the key code.

Spray the barrel with brake cleaner and put the new key in and out until all the plates operate easy and crisply without sticking. Using lock lube after no more dirt comes out of the lock with brake cleaner. I sprayed in the key hole to flood it and then ran my new key in and out.

If you can’t get this to happen then it’s already out and you can get a new ignition lock and either install it with the key they give you or get the new lock keyed to your new key you just got cut. I’ve always been able to get a new cut key to work. Two 4Runners and 2 S Series Saturn’s.

You can also just file the tumblers so either key works. Not the best scenario if you live where theft is an issue though. (although 4runners would be ridiculously easy to steal regardless)

can a locksmith cut from vin ?
Will a internet dealer cut from vin without proof you own the 4runner ?
As far as dealer,,,my local dealer wont price match internet... so I only use them when I absolutely have to or its nckle and dime and I don't want aftermarket..Id rather wait a few days to save 20% or more esp when most of my part orders lately go over 300..if I order a bunch of parts ( which I do need to do soon) will the internet dealer cut a key too ?
my ignition sticks off and on and I know my keys are well worn and copies made from old original I have , and those were made when the rig was about 15 years old when I bought it, now 19.. wow....in 2 years my 4runner will be old enough to order a beer

I replaced the ignition lock with a new Toyota branded part I got on eBay. Used a YouTube video to figure out how to do it. 15 minutes, $65.

Now to attack the rear window switch.
