Thanks! Means a lot coming from a true T4R legend. Can't tell you how many times over the years I've lurked in your thread. The original ideas never seem to stop!

Well I'd be lying if I said I wasn't trying to free up some cash. My life is a crazy whirlwind (of good things) right now and having more cash in the bank is a good thing. That's only part of the reason though as I certainly wasn't in a position where it HAD to go. The 4th gen was the best all-around rig I've ever built and it was hard to see that spotless frame drive away. lol My personal pros and cons list below:

PROS:
- V8
- Good balance of physical size for room and offroad capability
- More comfortable (by a long shot IMO) than the 3rd Gen
- Stronger front end components vs 3rd Gen and older Toyota's with 8" front diff
- Lots and Lots of crossover and new and upcoming parts. hint: Marlin's RCLT
- Rear discs

CONS:
- I have come to realize I do not like grey interior. I'm a huge fan of natural light and how a space is truly capable of setting a mood (I am really into architecture from a hobbyist standpoint) and I think cross's over to the "interior feel" of the 4th gen. Maybe I'm crazy?
- Fuel economy (not that I expect my new to me 3rd gen on 35's to be better ;)
- Paint sucks: like it chips and scratches when you look at it
- Design is not as timeless as the 3rd gen (subjective)
- Going back to my house analogy: the 4th and 5th gen 4Runner's are like buying a brand new house, that checks all of your boxes. The 3rd gen is like buying a mid-century modern home in a mature neighborhood and renovating it so that it fits your needs perfectly. More work, but just cooler!

What's currently on my mind - Interior Organization

Need to dial my interior setup. My family will grow soon (my wife is pregnant!) and I need to keep the weight down in this thing (at least until it gets a vvti 1UZ or 2UZ). Will retain one of the 50/50 split rear seats to put a child seat but thinking of putting the ARB fridge where the other seat was. Then doing large single very low profile drawer in the cargo area. I also want the factory dust cover to be utilized to hide all my stuff that will be underneath. In a round about way, this has me thinking about what air compressor to use and where it will go?

AIR COMPRESSORS

ARB Single High Output (CKMA12) - Small, compact, and a staple in the offroad world for good reason; 2.3 CFM @ 29 psi
ARB Twin (CKMTA12) - Better for the 315's and still backed by ARB's awesome warranty, compact but $$$ (I've killed one of these in the past, on my Tundra); 4.65 CFM @ 29 psi
PUMA 12V (PD1006) - All the 80-seres guys love this thing. Easier on the wallet and still good for the big tires; 3.4 CFM @ 40 psi (trying to find equivalent specs to compare against ARB)

Anyone have any feedback on the PUMA? Interested in feedback for any air compressor but I have previously ran both of the ARB options above. I know there are others like Viair etc but I just am not well versed in them.

ive known your first rig since day one and loved every single mod done to it. we are some of the few 3rd gen OGs on this forum even tho im a lurker. can't wait to see your 2.0 build and welcome back to the 3rd gen section lol!

Definitely going to be following this one closely! Our rigs are the exact same spec so Ill be interested to see where you take it.

Any plan to remove that chrome on the doors? Mine had some black rubber trim strips when I got it and I damaged my clear coat taking it off so be careful.

Keep the chrome on the doors! Then apply chrome vinyl to the hood protector, mirror housings, sunroof deflector, and spoiler!



No good on the LS430s. I did find something with even more width but tougher to retrofit, Mitsubishi Outlanders



Much cheaper too, under $100/pair

My buddy has a PUMA (Got it cheap too) It came attached to the tank but it's removable. He has it mounted in the driver side rear. Pretty sure he cut out some of the trim to make it fit though. He plumbed in a small tank for his Air Locker and it's bee very reliable and quick to inflate tires granted we're both on 33's. Throwing a point out there for your research. Also, congrats on the pregnancy! Exciting news!

My brother is in a pretty good spot. He just started a project for PBS. Not the greatest when it comes to the money side, but offset and then some when it comes to content and creative freedom. He's pretty stoked. I'm actually making moves to transition out of it. I like the filming side, but being out here in Seattle, I'm pretty much only editing. My body is suffering.

Oh nice! I'm a little bummed this one wasn't one of the more "rare" colors but beggars can't be choosers. Millenium Silver is actually a pretty nice color IMO, just everyone has it!

The chrome needs to go. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be extra cautious - just waiting for it to warm up here a little more before I try to peel it off.

Thanks for the feedback. I am honestly leaning towards the PUMA. It's not very small or compact but I'm not too worried about that with the storage platform I have planned. Like you said, I can always relocate the tank too.

Creative freedom is definitely a big plus. We certainly get projects where we cringe at the lack of "soul" or character that a project has that we're being paid to create. Lucky for us, we get a good mix of both so it makes us appreciate the good ones that much more. My brother does all the editing... lucky for me! Things are good though, I actually just went full time a few weeks ago. My brother and I have been working our ass's off though but now that it's for myself - its a good cause! We're doing good!

Certainly makes me even think about things a little different. On the flip side, your 4R is turning into quite the machine! So badass and well-executed in typical Dirtco form.

REAR COILS

What is everyone running these days? I was in a set of Dobinsons progressive LT coils in my 4th gen and absolutely loved them. Rode great unloaded and had minimal sag once geared up for camping.

I'd like to achieve 2.5-3" of unloaded lift in this. No rear bumper for a few months so I am probably willing to swap coils later if/when I do a swing out. Is the Toytec Superflex the only 3rd Gen specific variable rate rear coil spring?

Any suggestions?

OME 890 - linear rate, 2.5" lift, 435/425mm, 15mm wire, 188.4LB

Dobinsons C59-675V (4th Gen) - Variable rate, 3" lift, 470/470mm, 16mm wire, 157-230LB variable

Metal Tech (4th Gen) MT-GSJ-4050 LT Coils - Variable rate, ??? lift, 489/489mm (top wrap designed as a keeper - not as tall as free height reflects), 104-220LB variable

LC 8 wrap - digging for specs

Toytec Superflex - variable rate, 3-3.75" lift, XXmm wire, XXXX Length, 240LB

That's the $100,000 question right there! One plan I'm working on is possibly developing a property I own. I figure I already manage the properties I have, what's the difference if it's a few more units on one property. I wouldn't make a killing by any means (especially during the time I am paying off the loan needed to build) but I also don't need a lot of money to live off of. What I want more than anything is time.

So excited for this build, Addison! I have Duster 1.0 as my wallpaper on my desktop at home, and like many, it has influenced my build quite a bit. Love the detail you provide with all of your builds. Keep up the good work!

OME 2906 are progressive, but won't get you the lift you are looking for (and I think are too short if you are going for longer shocks).

I don't know yet LOL. They're kind of an odd shape and would require some creative(?) cutting of off-the-shelf shrouds. They might be too tall to fit either 3rd and 4th gen headlights.

LS460s aren't was wide (beam) as the 430's, but the advantage is some versions were able in bixenon (someone recently had a pair of the TRS-modded "LS460-R" for sale here). Didn't you do some lowbeam-only 460 retros?
