Oooohhh I'll have to look into that internal frame spray. I bought a little Lincoln 110 a few years ago just to tinker and this summer bought a Everlast 110V. It's insane how the new inverter technology helps with the Everlast. I am pretty confident welding 1/4" plate with the little thing... takes a little longer as you gotta let it cool down and rest but what a great welder (and skill) to learn as you get further into the 4x4 rabbit hole.

Thanks! Yah the LineX jobs are hit and miss but I think if you pay for the real deal and get the clearcoat added on, it makes the finish not fade and look more professional than all the DIY jobs out there (which look horrific IMO). Plus the 80-series had great bodylines to line the paintjob up with. I don't think it would work on the 4Runner TBH.

The real Colossal is this weekend (above was the Pre-Run) so super stoked for that! I'd love to get down into Washington at some point. Or you could come up here and run Colossal anyway?? lol We've actually got 5 coming from Seattle this weekend.

Stoked to get the 4Runner up to speed. Massive build update coming in hot soon as it will have bumpers, sleeping platform, sliders, skids on in the next 2 weeks!

I'm interested to hear how the 6112's work for you being set on the 4th clip. I'm currently running Toytec Coilovers and think there has to be something better out there without spending the money on Kings/Icons/ADS/Radflo etc.

Good to know folks from Seattle are coming up. Might have to start planning for that. Just followed you on Instagram to follow what’s going on there as well.

True story. I just got back from 4 days of trails, camping, and high speed gravel. So far I'm quite happy with the 6112's (again, considering what they are) and I felt they more than handled all that I threw at them. If anything, the rear needs slower valving.... the 4th gen 5160's just aren't aggressive enough for my taste and a little soft. Liveable but I'll be searching to try something else (maybe a front LC80 5160, if they exist?).

Thanks for the follow. Interestingly enough, we are about to break off the "Colossal" name from Tamarack and start running it as it's own dedicated offroad adventure page. We even have a video series in the works but I can't divulge too much info on that now ;)

Glad to see you back in the 3rd gen forum again. Looks like you have a great start going with the new 4runner. I am not as OG as some of these other guys but have followed your builds since before I got my 3rd gen in 2012. Always top notch work and very thought out. As with most of us "Older" guys, time to wrench and keep up on build threads is tough with family, work, and life priorities.

I look forward to seeing the progression of this one and i'm happy to hear that the goal is to do less wrenching on it and more enjoying it. I need to heed that advise myself.

Hahah still an OG dude, I've referenced your thread way too many times for trimming reference on how to clear big tires. Certainly funny seeing us "older guys" transition from modding our trucks all the time and updating the forum to being more family focused. I still love working on the truck and documenting mods but it is certainly harder than it used to be!

So far i have not been heading my own advice as I basically wrenched for 3 weeks straight to get the truck ready for Colossal and the Utah trip we just returned from. But the good thing there is that now I am at a point where I can slowly start ticking projects off my list as time allows. Modding in a rush is no fun at all.

Still playing catch up on the media side of things... but I should be releasing a short Colossal write-up and photos soon. Followed by the Colossal 2019 after-movie and then we will get into the photos/video from our Utah trip. This was my 3rd time in the Moab area, second time going there specifically to wheel, and it did not disapoint. Can't wait to share all the stories and photos in due time.

Just caught up on the #2 Duster, and super stoked you have a 3rd gen again.

*Quick note, I wanted to reference your high idle issue. Personal experience for me: every time I have the engine apart for anything decently in depth (where the intake comes off, I clean sensors, etc etc) I get a high idle when it's all put back together. The first time it happened, i did all the same crap you did, and never felt like anything i DID actually fixed it...I had the sensation it just fixed itself. So the last time I had it happen after installing my Airaid intake tube, I just said screw it, and ignored the high idle. It dropped down to normal after about 3 drives. And I didn't do a damn thing. So whatever that's worth.


Truck looks great! It's a cool thing to build them when you already know exactly what you want to do.

Hey! Stoked to see you're still around. Still rocking that beauty thundercloud 4R?

Totally on the high idle. If I see something like this again I will be doing exactly that. FWIW I left the washers in place to take up the slack but everything has been working great now for about 12K miles.

Truck looks great! It's a cool thing to build them when you already know exactly what you want to do.

Did you every find the free height of the Superflex coils? I can't seem to find any info on them other than Ripcord's 2.0 thread where he mentions 19.5 and being identical to 861's.
However everywhere else says that 861's are 18.89"FH.
I am pulling my 861's and wanting around 3" in the rear with rear bumper and swingout. Considering the Dobinson's 675V's, or a some 8 wraps.

No I did not. I'd love to get down to even 2.5" rear lift with all the weight/rear bumper and still be able to have the benefits of all that free height. The 675V is that a 4th gen Dobinsons spring? I wonder if we got a bunch of people together if @Crikeymike could make a progressive coil designed for these types of applications. Considering the amount of people running Land Cruiser coils on their 4Runners, it seems like there could be a business case for a 4Runner/Surf specific coil that achieves what we want?!
