99 Power steering pump
I had some work done on my 99 while I was out west and come back and the power steering - or a hideous noise on the left front side when turning seems to be the issue.
They said they had to move it when putting on the tensioners (I had the TB/WP done) and now it sounds like shit and horrible noise when turning. I'm thinking power steering pump?
Any other ideas?
If the power steering pump, what do you guys use?
I've seen the ones from Rock Auto and it's w/o a reservoir so does that need to be included also.
Give me the skinny on what's up and what I need to get to fix it back to normal.

I'd first check your fluid and see if it is low. If not, you'll probably need a new power steering pump. The reservoir is pretty simple to pull off and clean out. I bought a pump from rock auto and it seems to be holding up ok.

You can try cleaning the screen in the pump reservoir and flushing the power steering fluid. It calls for Dexron 3 transmission fluid for the power steering system.

Which pump you get? Acdelco was the one I’m looking at. Plus seals n all that.

with the engine running, open up the power steering pump reservoir and make sure fluid is circulating. Also check to see if it's foamy and/or a lot of bubbles. If it is foamy, they could have knocked the reservoir enough to mess up the seal and it's letting air in (and leaking fluid that you haven't noticed yet).

I bought the A1 Cardon, remanned one without a reservoir.

Seems an awful coincidence that your power steering pump went out while a shop had it. Failing pump wouldn't be my first suspicion. I'd make sure they didn't do anything funny.
But then again, I am pessimistic and I have had shops break things for me.

If it's the whirring/whining noise you're hearing, try cleaning the screen in the bottom of the reservoir. If it's a high-pitched squealing, that's a belt slip/jammed pulley issue.

Doubtful its a power steering pump failing. They make horrible noise when fluid has trouble passing or air in line. If you've ever heard loud old water pipes in a house, same idea, that's air in the pipes. Those guys messed with it and produced the issue. I had same same thing, after a flush it went quiet. Also make sure all connections are tight.

I did this as PM and what little noise I had a full stop disappeared. She's as quiet as a church mouse now

A few tips before you go and replace it:
1. Check to make sure the belt is tight. If you press on the belt it should give a little but not anything significant. Check the tension compared to the other belts.
2. "Bleed" the steering by turning it from full lock on one side to the other, about 5 times slowly. This allows air to make its way out of the lines.
3A. After bleeding the system, open up the reservoir and check the fluid level on the cap. Refill as needed.
3B. If the fluid was low, check the boots on the inner tie rods for leaking fluid. After a long wheeling trip it's possible they sprung a leak.
4. If the system is still making noise, clean out the filter.
5. O'Reilly's sells synthetic Asian vehicle power steering fluid. Not everyone will agree with using it but it quieted up my power steering pump completely for $10. Extremely satisfied with the product.
6. If you still have the noise, replace the pump.

I'd venture to guess that if you have to clean out the reservoir due to trash something in the system has degraded to warranty replacement. Its a closed system not open to atmosphere so metal shavings are either coming from the pump / rack.

I don't know if I have the right tools to do it. If there's some links in here that y'all can find for a novice like me to do it, please post it up so I can follow along.
Yea, it makes me quite unhappy (think unhappy Marine) that this issue has popped up 'suddenly'. I just wanted to drive it around and look cool. LOL
I have to ditch my Sonata now and I need something to drive.

talk about a shaft job. the mechanic is telling me the pump is $435 alone. I about choked and said, naw I'll source my own.
Now I'm really getting annoyed with WTF is going on and what the hell did they do.
I'll watch the video and read up some more and try this on my own first.
