Fuel light will not go off.

As some of you may know I have completely rebuilt my 98' limited. It is a v6 with auto and 4wheel drive. I swapped in a rear locker but I used an after market wiring harness (I don't remember the manufacture for the harness but it came recommend from this site) I pulled the dash cluster out and swapped all of the main bulbs to LED, including the turn single bulbs. All of the warning lights were left alone in the cluster and were never taken out, so all of the check engine lights, the fuel bulb all remained as they were because they all worked correctly.

I have had issues with the fuel light not going off since I completed the rebuild and since the problem started I have checked all of the connections and replaced the fuel pump and sending unit. The pump was an original and I figured since I was doing a complete rebuild I might as well take care of that, and since I have the fuel tank down I might as well replace the sending unit. I am sure all of you understand the "since then" reasoning that takes place with any project.

I am asking if anyone has had this issue or if anyone might have a suggestion for what might cause the light to stay on. Also, yest the fuel gauge does work correctly.

Replace all the leds with stock lights and your problem will be solved. We bought one that had the same issue. Put the stock bulbs back in and the fuel light went out. Can't explain why it does it but that will fix your issue.

Even if the fuel light is a stock bulb. I may just live with the light being on as I don't want to take the dash back apart again. But, thanks for the info anyway.

Yea just changing the back lighting bulbs to led can cause it. No idea why. We had one that was fine with them awhile back and this most recent one where once we took the leds out and put stock ones back in the fuel light worked as it should. Could just pull the fuel light. Don't really need it lol.

Thats crazy that swapping the back lights to LED's would cause that. Anyway, once again thanks for the input.

Did you only change the 3 cluster backlights? If so you should be fine. Many, many people (including myself on both my trucks) have changed only those lights and are fine. Your issue is probably somewhere else.

So, I broke down and pulled the cluster out and changed all of the back lights back to the original style of bulbs. The fuel light went off. There may be something wrong with the cluster but I am just going to deal with no fuel light and keep my led's.
