Fog light install, now no start

I was installing Hella fog lights last night, I didn't finish so I wrapped up the loose cable ends and went to bed. Cut to this morning when I wanted to go to the auto parts store to pick up some more but connectors, I connected the battery, I made sure everything was safe and that my wire ends were either connected or insulated. I put the key in the ignition and all I heard was a click but no crank.

I had used a fuse tap foolishly on the IGN fuse in the cabin. I remove that fuse tap (I used 7.5A fuses in both positions so it was protected) and put it back to how it was. Still nothing. The new system uses a relay to trigger the fog lamps, so a fuse tap was used to provide power to the switch in the cabin.

Starting to be concerned now, so I check every fuse in the main fuse box, they are all okay. Whenever I turn the key the clock in the interior blanks out but I believe its always done that, I hear the click like something is happening, but nothing else happens.

Everything else that is electronic seems to be working. As I was installing my new fog lights I was replacing the janky wiring from the old ones. I did cut wires, but I only cut the wires related to that old system, I never cut wires from the wiring harness.

Any ideas?

That sounds like a bad battery connection to me.

What's the battery voltage? Sounds like you might have just drained the battery.

Check the sta 7.5 amp fuse and ecu-ig 10 amp fuse inside the vehicle.
Edit : you have 98 so your fuse location might be different. sta fuse might be in the engine bay fuse box.

I sanded off corrosion, still no crank. I checked the fuses inside, all was well.

Starting to think my battery itself is the problem, it is 5 years old and has had a long life. Got it tested 2 months ago and they said it was still good, but it could no longer hold full charge. But my headlights are still bright.

I was shooting a video of what it was doing when it decided to crank and start on camera. Got my reaction too, here is the video because I thought it was kind of funny (warning there is swearing )

So I guess it was a loose/dirty terminal. It really had me scared because I have to go to work and I was banking on my sister getting home from work in time. I feel like I just got out of a ticket or something.

That's hillarious but glad it started for you!

Funny story, my uncle worked for an independant contractor and his work truck had a failing starter. He asked his boss for the money for a new one but his tight ass boss wouldn't give him the money. He said screw it and got it started one last time and let the truck run for a week straight. He kept gas in it and literally did not shut it off for a week, it idled all day at work and all night when he got home. His boss finally asked how the starter was doing and said he didn't know, it's been running since the last time I talked to you! He got the money for a new starter after that...haha

It could be starter contacts also. My clock turns off during a start.
