Front differential noise

I ran the front differential with low oil and now it has a howling noise. I drain the fluid and maybe 2 cups of oil came out, and there where no damage parts that drain out. How long do you think the front different will last and should I change the differential or just keep on driving with the howling sound?

The howling sound you hear is the bearings gone bad. The rear diff bearings can take a real beating and still work but there's a point of failure for everything. It's only going to get louder as the bearings get more and more beat up.

in the front diff; if you have an A.D.D diff, the oil can only circulate if you are in 4WD, which is why Toyota recommends that you use 4WD once a month. If the oil can't get to the carrier bearings regularly, or the axle bearings, they will corrode and fail.
