unable to un-program automatic door locks 2001 sr5

As far as I can tell my 2001 has the RS3200 system, there is a manual for it in the glove box and a red security light on the dash. I don't however see any module under the driver seat as others have noted.

I am trying to stop the doors from locking when the key is turned on.

I have followed the procedure found in the instructions.
-Driver door open, turn key to on 5 times.

It says the security light should come on (which it does) and it should chirp, but it doesn't chirp.

I tried closing and opening the door twice anyways (as this is the next step) but it didn't work. I don't think it's entering programming mode correctly.

I have tried at least 50 times and I want to pull my hair out now. Any ideas or help would be awesome.

is yours the system where all the locks have to work? PIC your remote and I'll be able to tell. I've known system where locks or door switches were faulty , making it difficult to perform programming functions.

Yes all the door locks have to work and do seem to be working.

One thing I have noticed is that you can't open the door with the door handle when it is locked. This is slightly frightening as in an emergency you need to figure out how to unlock the door before you can open it.

I was able to get it to go into remote programming mode using a series of ignition cycles, door cycles, and door lock cycles. This was confirmed by the chirp. But have been unable to get it into door lock programming using the combination of key cycles and door cycles as described in the manual...

My doors won't open with the handle if they are locked.
Some cars do, some don't.

Did you ever figure this out? I just picked up a 2001 4Runner (2wd) and would really like to disable the auto door locks/unlocks. I tried the ignition key sequence and didn't even get a chirp.

The T4R didn't come with a chipped key or a stock remote so maybe I'm SOL. Just a standard key and aftermarket remote Fob.
