Buying Tires Online...

Is there any real threat to doing this from a retailer? NOT eBAY! I've had a couple situations, and now I can no longer trust ebay for super important materials. Really interested in some NITTO Teragrapplers. Don't have a NITTO retailer aournd here. They are cheaper than some Hankook's i was looking at, and seem better. Is it safe to order online from a store?

yeah... very safe to order online. sometimes even cheaper. the only downfall is that stores usually wont mount them for free unless you buy them there... check into it. a lot of tire stores will order any tire you want... in which case they usually mount them for free.

Discount/American Tire does this i know.

if you do order online... try these sites:

www.tirerack.com

www.discounttire.com

good luck!

Lightbulb strategy is everything....

I just got LT265/75/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers on Friday 4/6.

I used the Discount Tire Direct website to pin my local dealers down to a price I could live with.

They are advertised at $121 for the D load range tire and $131 for the E range tire.

They ship for free per their website.

In my opinion a low cost per tire is important, but more important is warranty replacement of the tire should it impale itself on a road hazard. Discount Tires here in Colorado charge $18 per tire and will cover the tire replacement should this occur, at any time during the life of the tread-I believe down to 2/32".

Not to complicate your purchase, but I am experiencing some rubbing with this size of tire. A 265/75 is slightly taller and less tread width compared to the stock 265/70/16 -we are talking mere fractions of an inch or two I believe-but I did have to remove my front mudflaps to have full range of motion in turning. I got new wheels as well-but stuck with the 16x7 original size on those.

Discount is also called America's Tire or some such name back east I believe. If you do not have a local tire dealer your priorities may be substantially different than mine. I have had too many roofing nails/bolts/even a nail clipper pierce my tires in the past so I am quite firm in obtaining good warranty/road hazard coverage.

The new tires ride well and even my teenagers remarked they could notice a distinctly less choppy ride than before the install.
They seem farly quiet for a Terrain tire though I have not yet done 50 miles straight with the back window down.

and cannot wait to do so.....

My general impression of the mail order places is that any money you save on the tire cost is soon eaten up by the increased costs of mounting and balancing a tire at a shop you did not use for the tire purchase. However, I do believe Tire Rack does now offer road hazard coverage, and their prices are decent.

I got the GY wrangler AT/S LT265/75/R16 and no rubbing at all. I got OEM mud flaps on all four corners and no rub.

PS - These tires are ok but I'm probably gonna get the all-terrain BFGs next.
